Ted Ginn - Duh. Polished vet in our system, and doubles as a returner.

Philly Brown - Duh. Polished vet in our system.

Stephen Hill - Maybe has a small chance, but I doubt he pushes Ginn or Brown out UNLESS Brown starts on PUP which he may if we want to give Hill a serious look.

Damiere Byrd - Practice squad

Miles Shuler - Cut

Avius Capers (just signed) - Don't sleep on this guy. Practice Squad.

Brenton Bersin - Solid in our system. Cam's guy. Playbook wizard.

Kevin Norwood - Until I hear something from him, I am going to assume his face is on a milk carton somewhere.

Keyarris Garrett - Hype. May make the PS, but I can't see him pushing Bersin out at this point.

Cobi Hamilton - He's no slouch, so we'll see. But again, I don't see Bersin being dislodged because of what I said about him above.

KB & Funchess are locks.  And I definitely agree we're only going to keep 5 true WR's.

Ginn not making the roster would be one of the biggest surprises ever in the history of the Panthers.  He had 10 TD's last year and is still a threat to take it to the house every play or punt return.  Ginn may not work everywhere b/c he is going to drop balls, but you combine his still elite-level speed with arguably the best deep thrower in the league and it truly changes the way defenses are forced to play the Panthers.

Philly came on strong towards the end of last year, and he was balling in the playoffs.  He was beating both Talib and Chris Harris Jr. in the SB before he got hurt.  A lingering shoulder injury is the only conceivable way IMO he doesn't make the roster.  His route running is extremely underrated.  He has speed, but he's not a one-trick pony like Ginn.  To me, he is still ascending as a player, and to cut him would mean another guy is really going to have to step up immensely.

People get so excited every year over the thought of shaking up the roster, but it would be insane to arbitrarily change the WR group after the numbers they put up last year.  Now, obviously none of this happens w/o Cam, but I don't get the Philly hate.  If he's your #4 WR, then you've got one of the deepest groups in the league.  I don't understand the willingness (and desire) to dump Philly for one of these other guys.  Another team would claim Philly- I'm not so sure with anyone else.

Joe Webb is our defacto #6 WR, and I don't think he's going anywhere.  He's good for the QB group, and more importantly, he plays all 4 ST groups.  That is one of the most overlooked things for guys near the bottom of the depth chart.  The Panthers rarely have more than 4 WR's active on game day b/c of Joe Webb so it's not like the #5 WR is really seeing the field on game day much anyway if everyone is healthy.

WR is a glamour position and b/c of that people like talking about it, but I think this year will be a whole lot of guys fighting for one spot.  I tend to lean towards the final spot going to Kevin Norwood or Stephen Hill b/c we gave up a draft pick for Norwood and I don't think Hill is PS eligible anymore and has the size & speed we want.  Bersin could still get that spot due to his playbook knowledge and ST value.

Byrd and Garrett have the most upside of the remaining guys, but both have PS eligibility.  People get excited over potential, but both guys went undrafted, and there's not going to be a line of suitors should they get cut (Byrd was cut & resigned to the PS last year) unless they really show something special in the preseason.  I hope they do- it's a good problem to have.

The same teams that weren't signing Hill in 2014 and didn't give up peanuts for Norwood last year? I have no idea if Garrett is better than either of those guys and I imagine teams would prefer someone with NFL experience, but I think you're overestimating the potential value of Hill and Norwood.

Byrd, Brown, and Garrett.

 

Byrd reminds me a lot of Ginn with his speed, ability in space, and return abilities.

Brown is young talent that we developed, and he stepped up for us in big places last season.

Garrett has too much potential and the coaching staff seems to be way too excited about the guy for him to not be a strong candidate to make the roster.

I can see Byrd possibly challenging either Brown or Ginn with a really good camp but Ginn is too versatile and Brown (if healthy) is also very versatile, probably our best route runner and a decent blocker. I think the last spot is Norwood vs Garrett and it's close. I like Garrett's potential so much more but Norwood is the better route runner and blocker from what I know so far.

Can't wait to hear from OTAs and Training Camp because this is going to be one of the many great competitions. If a WR misses any time in camp with a hammy or something they may never recover to earn a spot.
