credit card problem

So, I stopped at Lowe's after work and tried to spend $40.  My credit card was declined.  Impossible.  I figured the chip was malfunctioning.  Called the credit card company.

Seems my card was used in Tyrone, PA today for $154.56 at 131pm.  They must have detected fraud.  No...they did not call me...just let me get declined. (I was in NC all day...card in my possession).

I called the place it was used.  It is a convenience store.  They do not do transactions by phone. The clerk remembers this transaction because it was unusually large for them.  Said a guy named Tyrone bought 20 packs of cigs (thus the fraud alert) and some other stuff.  His 1st card was declined.  So he pulled out another with my account # and his name on it.  Clerk said she checked his ID because they have had problems there. Also said the card looked funny.  They do not have a chip reader so he just slid the card.

I will not have to pay this of course.  Just wondering how this poo happens.  Also funny....did you catch that Tyrone used this card in Tyrone?

Do you bank with wells fargo? I got hit last week, and another person I know did too.

Honestly,  carders have already hacked chip cards in EU so they really only protect you from avg Joe crack head carders. The US is about 20 years behind in the game. Carding in the US is sadly so easy a 6 year old could do it.

This...  I used to play a lot of video games back in college and one German dude I played a lot with for years sent me a software that I installed just to see if it works. It was a hacking software that cracks routers and reads every credit card entered or swiped wirelessly.  He told me to pull next to gas station and just enjoy the show.  I realized he wasn't joking...  I said fug that and delete the software.

Yea wireless hacking is actually really easy. If I could tell everyone 2 things about card security is this. Never use the same password and email for high value accounts and never use a debit card, Discover or Amex. All are high value targets because of balance.

Also that software you installed probably had a worm/RAT in the code. People pass those out so they can make huge botnets. Hackers get hacked like that all the time.

Maybe but I was broke and that PC has been dead for over 6 years now.  I actually start getting into hacking 14 years ago and realized how easy it was to crack codes, passwords, firewalls and etc...  I got an email from FBI telling me they know what I am doing and I need to stop immediately or be arrested.  I stopped that night... Never been scared so shitless before.  Did manufactury reboot and deleted everything.

If they had anything we would not be talking lol.  I want comment on my past but I enjoy security and honestly most carders get caught. The ones that don't live in Russia. Cyber security really needs a overhaul in the US and that's exactly why other countries can attack our identitys so easily.

Also a credit card being compromised is so much less a headache than a debit card. I use credit cards for most purchases then pay them off at the end of the month. After I got my debit hacked a few times and my bank account compromised I wont be doing that ish again.

If you lose cash its such a slower process thenif you lose credit and tell them

I've been thinking of doing this after it happened to me a year and a half ago
