credit card problem

So your card has a chip in it and it was still compromised?  These new chip cards are annoying as hell and serve no purpose that I can see other than holding up a line.  I think the banks sent out these new cards just so business' would have to buy new card readers.

Chip technology is supposed to prevent this.  Problem so many merchants do not yet have it so have to swipe the card. Found out today that the same thief went to same convenience store chain in the next town, tried to spend $185 but it was declined. Good fraud detection.  Too bad it did not decline the 1st one.

my credit card company texts me every time the card is swiped. it is quite convenient to see when your card is being used as the text is instantaneous. you may want to ask your card provider if that is an option. btw, my card is a CITI double cash.

My card was declined in Atlantic City while I was there for my cousin's bachelor party.  I had been traveling for work that week, so in a few days I had gone from NC to Virginia to Philly and then to NJ.  I called the bank and had to answer some ridiculously hard questions after I had been drinking.  I passed the test, but I wish I hadn't; I didn't need more money to gamble away.

I'm glad my bank took action, but I always call them when I'm about to travel now.

Adding to the pain of the SB loss, before the game viewing in ATL with the RR there, my wife went across the street to the mall to buy some cosmetics.  We got a call an hour later that charges had been run up an an ALDI in CA. to the tune of $1500.00 (how the hell do you spend THAT much at an ALDI?). Very likely that the clerk at Macy's took the information and ran it to someone when she gave her the card.  My advice is to always keep your card in sight when you give it to a clerk at a store and lifelock (we have it so it flagged very quickly) is a good investment as well.

Also if you get a CC, not all of them are the same about denying charges.  AMEX is by far the best of the bunch, they are aggressive and will refuse to pay fradulent charges (which is why their rates are higher and why so many vendors do not take their cards).

Sorry you had this happen but at least the damage was relatively minimal.

Yea.. A month ago or so someone charged my credit card $1k in matter of 30 minutes before the bank locked it up.  I got a text from my bank that said "POTENTIAL FRAUD" and had names and amounts in text.  Someone spent $600 in Sears in California and $400 in gift cards to multiple Virgin Island resorts.  I opened the text and they an option to reply "1" for confirm transaction or "2" fraudulent.  I clicked 2 and received a phone call within 30 seconds where I confirmed my info and my credit card was cancelled and they send me a new one and wiped all fraudulent charges from my statement.

Also a credit card being compromised is so much less a headache than a debit card. I use credit cards for most purchases then pay them off at the end of the month. After I got my debit hacked a few times and my bank account compromised I wont be doing that ish again.

If you lose cash its such a slower process thenif you lose credit and tell them

They did it due to the various hacking incidents that have occurred (such as target).  The old system formed an encrypted communication between the card reader and the bank.  Now, the encryption is between the card itself and the bank, which in effect means hacking the card reader accomplishes little.  Its increased the hurdles hackers/thieves have to go thru in order to get your card number.   Its certainly an improvement, although there will still be hacks.

Honestly,  carders have already hacked chip cards in EU so they really only protect you from avg Joe crack head carders. The US is about 20 years behind in the game. Carding in the US is sadly so easy a 6 year old could do it.

This is why cash is king in many ways. Sure you might lose rewards etc but you are unhackable and have more leverage on a price. Just have to weigh convenience vs that.

Except that cash is more vulnerable than Cards.  Lose a credit card, or have it stolen, and you can just call the bank and stop transactions and have it replaced.  Lose cash or get it stolen, and you are out of luck.

    • We are wearing black jerseys with blue pants. I'm getting a little exhausted with all the combos.  I kinda miss the black/silver and black/black for certain games tbh.
    • Its not something that could be backed up by data one way or the other.  Its just an opinion, like most things stated here.   Regarding my comment that started this discussion, Imo its more difficult to find good offensive linemen than wide receivers, due to a number of factors.  Granted that anyone that reaches the NFL has elite skills, but  I think that most players with the size, strength and skill would rather play on the defensive line.  If an offensive linemen does his job well, no one hears his name.  But if a Dlinemen gets to the qb a couple of times a game, all the fans know it.   Have a good offensive line directly impacts the run and passing attacks.  Where as have a good group of receivers only indirectly impacts the run game.  Miami's run game has taken a huge hit this year, while ours have improved.  I think Hunt is a big part of the reason this is true.  Not the only part of course, but a big part.
    • Where is the Roaring Riot tailgate these days. Probably the best bet
