"Mucas" is back!

Can someone more knowledgeable than I divide our 8 current TEs into groups?  Who would be competing as a receiving TE vs. who would be competing for that potential "Richie Brockel replacement" blocking type role?  That way we know who is competing against whom....

Here's the list of the eight tight ends on the roster.

Last season we never had more than 3 TEs on the roster at any given point.  (But Brockel who was listed as a FB was also on the roster a few weeks, which would have made 4  TE/FBs)

Update:  here's what the TE position looked like (including Brockel) in 2015 in terms of who was on the roster and who was active when.

Greg & Ed were the constants....  Simonson was on the roster for 14 games, and active for 12 of those.

TE is shaping up to be among the fiercest position battles at Training Camp.

He looked pretty good in camp last season.  I think he was one of the guys we were most sorry to cut if I recall comments from Ron or Dave...

Given that we claimed him off waivers, and we're 2nd to last on the waiver wire, it's clear he wasn't high on any other team's wish list....

Yeah he was a bright spot on offense last preseason. Probably the brightest. It was a mistake cutting him.

Here's another reason this potential TE shakeup excites me.  As Jeremy and others have posted, it suggests that we might be thinking of 2 TE sets like back in the days of Olsen & Shockey (which I unfortunately never really saw much of at the time as I wasn't following the Panthers then....)

One of the big weaknesses of Shula in the SB was, according to Denver's coaches, that we didn't change up our look.  We did exactly what Denver expected us to do.  They beat up our offense big time.

So, going into the 2016 season with a HUGE HUGE target on our back, when playing us will be many teams' "superbowl" and they will have closely studied our 2015 film to understand the nuances of our offense... it's incredibly exciting that we might be stirring things up and making changes, not just trying to repeat what worked last year.

Given our likely continuity in terms of nearly all of our offensive players returning, I didn't really expect huge changes in our offensive scheme, but Shula might surprise us!

We get KB back.  That's already one big change on offense.

There's gonna be a heck of a WR competition in camp.  We might end up with some other new shiny weapon at WR in addition to KB, Funch & Ginn....

D Williams could possibly beat out Remmers at RT.

And now it looks like we're stirring things up at TE.   Sweet.  Very sweet.

Now don't take this as holy writ, but, we are not really the type of team that is going to change much of what we do. We are going to do what we do, and it is up to you to stop us. We do mix up our sets, and run multiple plays from each set. So we are not really that easy to predict. We can run or pass from most of our sets. Which means we are rather diverse without having to go all tricky on you.

The main reason we lost that SuperB owl, IMO, was the couple of plays Miller made over Remmers. No strip sack TD and the game could change. No strip sack fumble, and the game could change. Add in the Cotch non catch, and the game could have been different.

Denver saying they knew what we were doing really doesn't mean much. Because, as I said, we pretty much do what we are going to do. And we were pretty darn effective doing so. Well, outside of the atl and SB games that is. I would also expect us to pretty much run the same Offense again this year. If you can stop it, and our MVP QB, more power to you. But we are betting you are going to fail, and we are going to succeed.

Holy cow.  That makes 8 Tight Ends on the roster at this moment....

I know that there are two distinct TE roles...  receiving TE and a Richie Brockel type blocking TE... but still.... this is a surprise.

Dickson and Simonson are likely going to have trouble making the roster!

FYI, I believe we went into camp last year with 6 TEs on the roster.    Here's the list I saved last year.

Dickson, Ed
Olsen, Greg
Williams, Brandon
Brockel, Richie
Childers, Jamie
Simonson, Scott

I think we are trying to find a complete TE who can do both , most likely is Beau Sandland

Denver is full of BS ... I rewatched the SB ...as much as I hated it I needed answers...5 things stuck out to me....

1.) Remmers..... enough said

2.) Cotchery's dropped balls..

3.) Norman 2-3 dropped INTS.

4.) FUMBLES

5.) Special Teams... Coverage.... and Gano.

We gave that game away....

Sorry 4 that derail but it needed to be stated. As for Marcus L ....I can't remember how he performed in the preseason I do however remember that Scott Simolson guy..he was impressive as a receiving TE IMO ....very impressive... playing against backups but you never know ...if he leaves CAR it wouldn't suprise me if he followed the Gary Barnidge path. Lucas WILL not me converted to WR...I repeat.

Two tightend sets... maybe but I'm leaning towards no. We have too many receiving threats at WR (did I just say that). I honestly think we are just preparing incase Olsen gets dinged up + trying to find someone we could rotate in the lineup without a considerable drop off.

Tough Comp but Olsen and Sandland with Simolson and Lucas backing them up..FTW.

No more Dickson plz...other jersey #'s need to be called.
