Whatever you do, DO NOT UPDATE right now. I updated earlier hoping to fix bugs, and I'm shut out of the game now. When I try to start, I go back to the enter your birthday screen at the beginning of the game (seemingly with no account). Hopefully it's fixed soon/my email login will be enough to save me

The update seems to be fine now, but I had to delete and redownload three times.

And to me, both the lures and incense just attract the basic stuff you already are used to. Rare and more powerful Pokemon pop up as your level rises, and in certain spots on the map at certain times like the old games supposedly.

Can someone explain the lucky egg ordeal? I just leveled to 8 and don't have one yet.

Also, between Maine last week and southern Florida this week I've seen the same dang 30 Pokemon over and over again. None of the rares listed in this thread have I ever seen and it's not like I'm in the middle of nowhere. The one seemingly rare 'Marowak' I stumbled upon I was unable to catch.

Lucky egg ordeal? As in what is it? It's basically a double XP item. You use it and get double XP on everything that normally gains you XP for 30 minutes. Best to use it when you're catching a lot, evolving a lot, etc. So, save up those rattatas and pidgeys for when you get a lucky egg and pop it when you're going to be at a pokestop for 30 minutes. And having incense helps.

You do get a lot of the same pokemon, but after I hit level 9, I started seeing things like venonat and meowth pop up more regularly alongside the original common ones. They're still common in general, but as you level, you see others more. Pidgeotto as well. Saw a Sandshrew earlier tonight. Threw two balls after throwing berries, busted out of both and ran. I was mad.

What base CP do you guys start building on with candies? I caught a 88 squirtle at level 4, should I pile into him or wait for something with a higher base CP to build on?

I'm going with nothing lower than 120 as a base to build on. I keep what I have until something better is caught though. You have plenty of space, so it shouldn't be a problem. I have a lot of 60-90 CP Pokemon that are just chilling until I find better. I have a 42 Ekans as well.

As an aside to all who experience the freezing game as you catch a Pokemon. Wait a few seconds before you force close the app. If the Pokemon is in the ball and would be caught if it didn't freeze, if you wait, it'll be caught. Check the top left "loading" pokeball that spins. Once it disappears for a solid 10 seconds or so, force close. You should see it in your pokemon when it opens back up. If not, then just stay in that same area. The Pokemon reappears every time, in my own experience. Same CP and everything.

I wouldn't power up anything that isn't at least half way through the semi-circle on the profile page of that pokemon.  Honestly, I wouldn't power up if it's not like 65/70% UNLESS it's rare or it's on the last evolve (and rare as well).

People, DO NOT use eggs just to sit and catch stuff.   Only use eggs to do a ton of evolves at once, so save your evolves and do a bunch right then.   I powerleveled like this and it works the best.  Higher trainer = more rare stuff and higher CP.  Even better if you can time your egg hatches with lucky egg and evolves.

Don't get mad if you find tons of the same this is GOOD.   It's better than a bunch of low levels that are different.   If you find a bunch of pidgys, the worm things, etc that require 12 to evolve that's easy leveling.   At work I catch like 75 bats a day for instance.   All pokemon help.  I got a big advantage over my friends because of billions of bats in uptown.   Also each catch is 100 exp and stardust.

We went uptown last night and in that park called the green (near 3 Wells fargo etc) we found FOUR Magmar last night.  More luck than Beardon (it's close though) and efficient.    Then I go home and find THREE good lvl rarish ones near my house haha.  Don't be afraid to use razzberries to catch yellow/orange stuff that is higher (you can use one every time you get it in the ball).

Here is some highlights for me so far:

Magmar - 996

Golbat - 864

Pidgeot - 864

Kingler - 835

Tentacruel - 834

Seadra - 783

Scyther - 697

Golduck - 695

like 10 Golbat's that are 500-650 (because of billions of bats)

I found an empty gym and 2 minutes later someone took it from me. smh

Ha my friend's wife had this happen to her.  She didn't heal up her high lvl and put it back quick enough.

Uptown CLT was amazing last night.  Hundreds were playing.  All races, sexes, ages, rich and poor, and no religion and no politics.  Was friendly atmosphere.

Nice, just so I understand, do they all have the same CP when the bar is full? Like do some have 100 CP with a bar half full and others have 30CP with a bar half full? Is there different strengths for the same mob?

Some pokemon can get higher than others.  Especially when you consider not all have three stages of evolution, some have only two, etc.    For instance, the Weedle, at first evolution, can almost fill up his CP half-circle with like 90cp or something where that wouldn't be much for other pokemon, so yeah CP at max is not always the same.

Cheers man, so I'm just gonna save up all my material until I find a real monster and then just plough it all into him.
