Really? I've heard 1 footprint is equal to 50 or 100 meters.

Most things I've read say 3 prints can represent up to 1km of distance

Question... I have two Raticates around CP 250 each... one has a Hyper Fang attack with 35 damage the other a Hyper Beam attack with 70 damage. Why the difference and should I always be using the one with the Hyper Beam to fight in gyms?

The little blue attack bars in gym battles is the only difference. You'll be able to use Hyper Fang quicker...it may only take 1 bar, whereas Hyper Beam might take the entire bar to fill up to use. It's that way for me with Hydro Pump/Vaporeon.

 

And fug the prints/tracks. They've made zero sense for me still. Just drove around the block, got out and walked 3 times, covered an entire area chasing a Scyther who was 3 prints away, then 2...never got closer to him. Not to mention, a lot of my catches seem to just randomly spawn, often not even showing up on the "nearby" list.

Was sitting around at my house (the middle of nowhere basically) and just caught a exeggutor with 806CP. Better guys are out there if you're not in a city, just pretty rare.

Just read up on the tracking system. 3 footprints is usually no more than a couple blocks in the city according to one guy, just have to get your direction chosen down, and possibly pull some 180's to get yourself on the right track.

You can get stuff in the middle of nowhere, but there are generally fewer. If you find a church in the middle of nowhere, head there. High population centers are where they're at, and since most people have phones and churches generally fill up, it seems pokemon tend to be found there. Same with schools (if there's not a no trespassing sign, obviously, and you stay out of the buildings, obviously). I am currently level 10. Haven't spent any money and don't intend to.

Started with Charmander, caught bulbasaur and squirtle, clefairy, abra, pinser, goldeen, staryu, jiggly puff, slowpoke, pidgeot (350CP, now have him at around 475), evolved one of my eevees into a Jolteon, caught a meowth, caught magikarp (on the side of the road nowhere near a body of water, but whatever) and hatched a magikarp). Caught Fearow. Caught male and female nidoran. oddish, weepinbell. tangela. poliwag. psyduck. Obviously a ton of rattata and pidgeys and spearows. As well as caterpie and weedle. I've probably only logged a total of 7 hours in 3 days on it. 3 of those hours the first night. 


What I did today before work was find a pokestop, use an incense, a lucky egg (once you get one I think at level 8 or 9), and a lure module (level 9). 30 minutes of winning. The pokemon that are on the nearby list aren't all there are near you either. Abra never showed. Meowth never showed. Goldeen never showed. Just be patient.

Was he in your nearby log or just randomly spawned?

Just a random spawn while I was watching a movie. Popped and and realized I didn't have one yet so took the time to catch it. Gonna toss him on one of the gyms tomorrow as a defender so I can get some coins rolling in. 

 

Also caught a 384CP Venonat that I promptly evolved into a 668 Venomoth. Again at home for that one. Most of my better finds have been while at work in Charlotte where I'm sitting on top of a Pokestop.

Can someone explain the lucky egg ordeal? I just leveled to 8 and don't have one yet. 

Also, between Maine last week and southern Florida this week I've seen the same dang 30 Pokemon over and over again. None of the rares listed in this thread have I ever seen and it's not like I'm in the middle of nowhere. The one seemingly rare 'Marowak' I stumbled upon I was unable to catch.
