Pokemon Go

I live in a rural area, so I can't catch poo at home and it's killing me. The last 3 nights I've gone out driving around, park, catch stuff, etc. Even walked around Walmart which was loaded (not proud of that one)

My data this month is going to be insane, but evolving my Eevee into a 800 CP Vaporeon was kinda awesome. As a side note, the "nearby" and distance away it tells me Pokemon are? So far it's ridiculous for me. I'll walk in circles around buildings and I swear they never show up. I just want Pikachu dammit

Am I the only one who's only caught three pokemon?  Are you guys just leaving the app open all day or something?  I'm in Charlotte, but not getting lucky, I guess.  Also, how are you guys learning things?  I'm finding it confusing to understand how things work (evolution, candy, joining teams).  I guess it would help if I actually stopped at a Store or Gym, but I'm not really looking for one when I'm driving.

You have to have the app up to catch stuff, hatch eggs, etc.  If it's closed, it's doing nothing, sadly.

I work uptown and can hit a pokestop from my desk so I've been lucky, I leave it open (plugged in charging) and it vibrates when a pokemon is near and I grab them.  Also people put lure modules on the pokestop throughout the day that helps me find pokemon (they show up for that lure sometimes).  I hit the pokestop every 5 minutes when it's back up if I can.

Evolution, save up candy to do it on like bats, pidgies, etc.  Pidgies are cheap.   Best is to use lucky egg and then do a ton of them for double exp (especially evols that give you new pokedex entries, that's like 2k exp).

I think this game scams you though and makes you throw curve balls and miss so you buy stuff.  Also some stuff is just IMPOSSIBLE to catch no matter how many times you trap them.

Everyone update us on your experience!

I've yet to spend a dime on the game and don't plan to. I have 38 unique Pokemon off the Pokedex. If I guessed how many I've caught, it's probably 100 or so. I live across from a Check In and can get it from my couch. I Lure it, add Scent to myself, and use a Lucky Egg if I have one. I use Razzberries for harder to catch Pokemons. I give about 90% back to the Professor in exchange for candy. I don't Power Up anyone unless they're fully evolved. I've yet to fight or train at a gym. Level 11.

Some of the "rarer" or "cooler" Pokemon I have are: Squirtle, Ekans, Clefairy, Mankey, Abra, Gastly, and Lickitung.

I've yet to encounter any Pokemons that show up as shadows on my radar unless any of those I just named did and I didn't notice.
