I simply replied to this statement:  "Until one of his strategies fail, I will defer to his judgement because he's been right so often"  by giving an example of a strategy failing and the conversation has shifted. People are so on the Gettlemen's nuts it's hard to keep any conversation that doesn't praise his roster moves as divinity in action from turning into a train wreck.

The entire 2014 season was a mismanaged disaster piece. All of Gettleman's "replacements" either failed to make the roster or were abused all season until they were eventually cut. Realizing we for the most part neglected areas that those stupid media people and those dumb fans said wed be bad at, and lo and behold we were, was just more salt in the wound. We should've been much better than we were, but all it took was a Byron Bell chanting "let's get fired up I said let's get fired up!'" to win the hearts and minds of management on down.

Do you ever show up to the huddle functions? I'd really like to put a face to the name.

I can see how the functioning of higher minds would want to make lesser ones resort to physical confrontation to compensate.

@Mr. Scot  You know i tried to discuss it with him, but then he resorts to calling names and what not.  Pretty standard stuff when you can't support your arguments.

I thought he was trying to be cute at first, but its apparent he believes the things he says.  Kinda scary.

now when you say "replacements" you're excluding andrew norwell, trai turner, kelvin benjamin, and bene benwikere right

all of those players replaced starters.  is there a reason they don't count?  you said "all" of his replacements either failed to make the roster or were abused all season until they were cut.

I just want to see what ya look like.  I only have one arm and admittedly am not much of a fighter.  Just curious as to if you actually like this team or spew ignorance on an internet forum for shits and giggles.

We lost a winning roster and replenished it with players who either weren't good enough to make the team, did the make team and were terrible, or were too young to be relied upon immediately.  Even Benjamin wasn't supposed to have to carry the burden of the entire receiving corp, as Tiquan Underwood and Jason Avant were there to be cog pieces. They couldn't do the job, we had one legitimate receiver and thus damaged the success of the team as a whole.

Well usually my appearance comes coupled with a panthers hat of some sort and the sound of my cheering for the team to win the super bowl, with any bragging about "almost doing it" or whatever being not so mysteriously absent.

I guess 20+ years of disappointment has soured you.  I commend your dedication to the all or nothing philosophy.

I'd rather enjoy each season, but you do you boo-boo.

that's why i think of it more as a mixed bag than an unmitigated disastrous failure.  i think that's what 2010 was.

e: meaning 2010 was a complete and utter failure

That tackle situation was such bullshit.

As has been said before, no one thinks Gettleman is perfect. We just think he's infinitely smarter than some random fans on the internet.

The past three years have been the most successful run this team has ever seen. We're positioned well for the future with top stars locked up long term and we have salary cap room to do more.

When you look at where we were just three years ago and then where we are now, there's  plenty of reason to trust the guys in charge.

So when a random fan says anything critical they are blasted.

This random fan thinks Gettleman has done a very good job in general and hopes his decisions work out. However I have a tendency to not shrug things off and have total faith in any one person or thing. The secondary has many reasons for concern and the moves have been bizarre. I'd be very surprised if the secondary isn't a problem this season.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
