Panthers Release Boykin

Not trying to join at the point of where the discussion has floated to...but I'm surprised to see no one has mentioned the fact that if we add someone to get substantial playing time (even just 1 guy), we may not get comp for Norman per the rules.  By nixing an expected starting UDFA CB at this point, I think this points to us still meeting that standard for the first comp pick in 2017 but adding a new guy for impact at another position.  People may be downplaying it, but watch us make a move for a S, OT, or something surprising.

The Conspiracy Queens have gone full retard in this thread.

Its been a damn hoot... lolololol.

Conspiracy Queens, eh?

You've heard it said on here that you can tell whether something is a good move or not by looking at who's against it, right?

The more I read this thread,  this move just starts to sound better and better.

Maybe you should go cheer for the Patriots instead on clogging up the board with pessimistic bullshit.

it's an endless cycle and it happens every offseason.  there are lots of people on this site who thrive off misery and were just as confident and snarky last year about the saints and colts making their supposed big time championship caliber moves.

if the team wins nobody gives a poo about who said what.  we're months away from actual football and everybody's little pet theories getting put to the test.  plenty of time to shape the narrative and for inevitable false predictions to get lost in an ocean of other posts.

nobody who predicted that the panthers would lose every week cared about the fact that they had been wrong 14 times in a row when they finally lost.  it was "haha see i told you so, who's the idiot now?".

You'll recall that pretty much that whole crowd was MIA all last season. They're not happy when we win because it makes them look stupid.

Pretty sh--ty "fans", honestly.

So I don't really want to add to this... but I need to point out that people worrying about the fact that Gettleman gave a man a $80K signing bonus and then cut him before he got on the practice field need to realise that you're talking about 0.05% of the years salary cap.

I'm not talking about the fact you've already signed him, have room under the 90 man limit and probably should have at least gotten pads on all these CBs before cutting anyone. Just saying that complaining about the $80K is ridiculous.

I assume that cutting him now was about doing the right thing by Boykin after we signed him to a one year prove-it deal and then totally changed the situation at that position. But that seems far too considerate of a professional football player's feelings in a situation that's way too likely to change (performance/injury/development).

I tell you what the next media person to get an interview with Gettleman is going to get a massive spike in readership/viewers/listeners.

I don't get the move barring off field issues......very minimum you have a vet backup......low risk high reward with Boykin, this is yet another confusing move by Dg. The very rare chance all 3 CB pan out this is still too risky of a move.....releasing him makes little sense at the moment

I had a bunch of huddlers telling my I was an idiot and Boykin was a great player.

Yeah its not surprising at all that thread got locked down as soon as it popped back up today. Lot of incriminating stuff on the quality of posters you're dealing with here

i mean if you're going to act like a dick and call everybody stupid you damn better not have a bunch of dumb poo in your own post history that any moron who can click an arrow can go look at right now.  i don't even really consider the loyalty issue; if somebody wants to root against the panthers or only care about them when they're winning that's fine because they're not likely to act pompous about it.

Super bowl championships.

Nobody here really cares about being the best loser. In fact, most concerning of all is that team continues to come up short against the big boys because of weaknesses in areas where everybody knew would cost us beforehand.

Great teams don't build themselves to make the playoffs. Its the cutthroat moves they make upon falling short to push themselves to victory that makes them great. The panthers are aiming more for Atlanta braves than new england patriots.

Wow, how did you go from not liking the Boykin cut to the Panthers are aiming to be the Braves?

thats a leap evel knievel would think twice about

There is nothing in the last 3 years to suggest what you're saying. Just to be brief about it.

DG: 3 years GM, 3 time division champ, 3 playoff appearances, 3 playoff wins, 1 NFC title, 1 Super Bowl appearance, 34-13-1 team record, and reigning Executive of the Year.

all while rebuilding the salary cap from -$15mil in 2013 to currently $30mil, drafting well, and signing core players to team friendly long term deals.

And you're somehow going to tell me that these things are evidence of an organization with no ambition to win Championships?

I guess with at least some of them, trying to be a stupid dick is the only real goal they have in mind. Or at the very least, it's the only goal they actually accomplished.

Heck, Fat Ass Alice got more excited about Panthers wins than some of these guys.
