Money for nothing is dumb.

This happens every single day in the NFL, with literally every single player that hasn't played through the entire life of their contract.  This isn't some groundbreaking new practice that the Panthers have schemed up.

This is an question to everyone, and be honest. Of the following two choices, which lineup would you feel more comfortable opening the season with?

Bene and one of the rookies on the outside, with Boykin at the nickel.

Or

Bene and two rookies?

Money for nothing is dumb. Cutting a very good veteran player for 3 rookies with no experience based off one minicamp is even dumber.

Reacting without understanding the big picture is dumb. Acting like you're better at a job youve never done than the GM of the year is the dumbest.

Scouting also plays a part in signing other team's veteran free agents. Did something break down there when they signed Boykin in the first place?

Do you think insurance is a good thing?  or is it just a waste?  Why not look at this move similarly?

Draft picks are almost always more valuable than low priced veteran free agents.  If you want sustained success, you have to take some chances in order to let young guys develop quickly.

This is nothing but me laughing, because you think I gave your poo post the time of day, when you couldn't mine...

You seem really bothered that I didn't take the time to read your post. If I was 16 and wanted to respond with a gif, I'd probably use that matrix one where's he all like "what if I told you" and then added the caption at the end that said "nobody reads your posts" but I'm not.

I'll give you an alternate question:

Whose judgement do you trust more?

Professional football people who have taken a team to the Super Bowl

Or

Random know-it-all fans on the internet

Of course insurance is a good thing. That's why I wanted Boykin here. Without him, our top 4 corners are Mediocre Bene and 3 rookies. That's the definition of no insurance.

I'm confused by this

I understand it and don't understand it. We haven't even got to OTA's yet, training camp, just to see how he look. I'm not saying Ron turns every player into a productive player after being written off, but his track record is good

Typically, I would err on the side of the professionals. However, everyone makes mistakes. Right now releasing Boykin looks like one, but I'm more than willing to eat crow if I end up being wrong.

Now, back to my question. Which of those two scenarios are you more comfortable with?

You can usually spin stupid FO moves better than this. You're not even going to try this time?

Which gets to the heart of the issue.

No one thinks Gettleman is infallible. They just think he's way smarter, far better plugged in and has infinitely more football knowledge than the resident whiners on this board.

Uh huh. Sure.

Not if they believe that playing our young thieves will be better.  I meant Boykin was insurance in case the draft didnt fall the way it did. Now he is just someone to delay their growth.  Gettleman thought he found better insurance, so got rid of the old one.

I brought up the insurance because you said cutting Boykin proves Gettleman made a mistake because you thought we paid for nothing.  I think Gettleman looks at it like he paid for insurance.

Right....it's like these dudes think GMan woke up today and decided to cut Boykin with no plan. Good God....can we not wait until at least camp to see how this plays out?

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
