The only thing I am positive of about this situation is this: DG doesn't make this move without the consultation and approval of all of Wilks, McDermott, and Rivera

Which tells me all of those guys must have been thrilled with what they saw from Bradberry, Worley, and Sanchez.

Which excites the hell out of me! :)

The coaches have no say in what Gettleman does, are you smoking crack? Did you not see Rivera's reaction to Norman's tender being rescinded? The only check on Gettleman is Richardson.

Nobody ever said Gettleman was infallible. The fact that you constant critics keep using this non-argument strawman only weakens *your* argument.

But, hypothetically, if people did believe Gettleman was infallible, in what way does cutting Boykin prove he isn't?

Giving someone guaranteed money to do literally nothing for you is an unspinnable mistake.

This is nothing but you admitting that I accurately surmised the entirety of your rubbish post without having to read it in full.

Maybe but how do you explain Robert McClain then? He's still on the roster, his contract is basically the same as Boykin's and he has 1 year left on it.

Yeah, but not all these NFL contracts are treated the same.  McClain came in and played games for us because of injury.  His agreement probably calls for damages--guaranteed money--if he's released or something. Boykin on the other hand, while signed, may have had a vesting clause, or void provision stuck in before OTAs began.  I could go down a rabbit hole guessing at why McClain is still around.  Suffice it to say, he has played for us and it could be that he's performed better than others comparable to his contract, and thus his value is there.  Who really knows???

Unless said player is in place just in case you can't grab 3 corners in the draft?

I don't like the move really, but there is more to this story than what we know....and lets be honest, it was 80k....not 800k.

Please explain how this is either perfect or not perfect before you have seen any of the rookies play a snap?

We gave guaranteed money to someone who did literally nothing for us. It is impossible to say that was a smart decision. You can argue how big of an error it was, but it was obviously an error.

He didnt do nothing.. He was insurance.  The draft made him expendable.  I wouldnt say someone made a mistake just because they got insurance and never had to make a claim.

This all fits right into the BPA decision-making.  The idea being that we aren't playing for a "window" to open.  Sustained success requires . . . you guessed it . . . sustaining a roster.  Why have a veteran on a one-year loan to try and earn a paycheck.  We're done shopping at the dollar store, and Getts drafts too well to allow that to happen; I mean, he definitely wasn't having Josh on a one-year loan.  So, while we act so confused, this is actually right in line with how Getts wants his team built.  BPA, cutting Boykin, letting Josh walk, trippling down on CBs . . . it all makes sense in the grand scheme of things.

Ding, ding, ding...

panicking is so much more fun than critical thinking though.

If Gettleman cut Boykin because of how great our 3 rookies looked, that's absurd. He would have had to have based that off one short rookie minicamp. Is that enough to make an impression? Maybe, but that also means he would have had to have thought a veteran like Boykin was also straight up garbage based off one short minicamp. The two do not compute.

It is asinine for Gettleman to say 3 rookies are better than Boykin based off one rookie minicamp when Boykin has played very well in actual NFL games. I don't care if Boykin was literally falling over his feet this month.
