I smell a Charles Tillman reunion

When Ron talked about not adding a vet CB "right now" I thought.... "yeah, but that doesn't rule out signing Tillman later!"

Seriously, bring Tillman in before training camp, have him on the PUP list, and voila, another DB coach / mentor, and maybe someone who can play a key role in key situational roles late in the season should he recover well...

Has to be more to this story than cutting him for a guy that looked good in rookie minicamp.

Almost has to be. Especially considering Gettleman wasn't even at rookie minicamp because he is recovering from his knee replacement surgery. Maybe he wasn't showing up for the offseason workout program or wasn't fitting in with the locker room. It seriously makes zero sense to me to cut a guy before he even has a chance to step on the field unless there was another issue.

Even ignoring the drafted CBs, there is no way Boykin is worse than Robert McClain or Shaq Richardson who is the CB we just signed from a tryout.

Exactly. People are already trying the revisionist history crap, but when you check out the thread where we signed him, people were jizzing in their pants out of excitement.

Which would tell you something if you'd engage your brain and reason it out rather than constantly emoting your feelz.

Actually, this may push us into 2 picks territory if I understand the formula right (I don't).

Qualifying FA Additions

Gino Gradkowski (may fall below qualifying cutoff because of playing time/contract)

Qualifying FA Departures

Josh Norman (3rd)

Brad Nortman (7th)

Anyone else think that this has more to do with a logjam at Nickle? I know they are big believers in size at the CB position, they have really resisted letting Bene play outside because of his size, I personally think they feel comfortable with having 2 nickles on the 53 in Sanchez and Bene, and letting the rookies and development guys play outside. Boykin was always going to be a nickle back and it seems like we are set and have a proven nickle in Bene.

Good catch, I like it. Ammo for Dave to move up.

This all fits right into the BPA decision-making.  The idea being that we aren't playing for a "window" to open.  Sustained success requires . . . you guessed it . . . sustaining a roster.  Why have a veteran on a one-year loan to try and earn a paycheck.  We're done shopping at the dollar store, and Getts drafts too well to allow that to happen; I mean, he definitely wasn't having Josh on a one-year loan.  So, while we act so confused, this is actually right in line with how Getts wants his team built.  BPA, cutting Boykin, letting Josh walk, trippling down on CBs . . . it all makes sense in the grand scheme of things.

Please explain how cutting a veteran corner who has proven to be at least solid is a good move when we have 3 rookies that have never played a snap. Remember how Gettleman fuged the team over in 2014 with WR's? It looks like it's going to be even worse this year with corners.

So, in your view, Gettleman just woke up in a "cut a cahnah" kind of mood and just cut Boykin out of the blue without any input from the head coach, defensive coordinator, or defensive backs coach?

You Steve Smith fanboyz are as irrational as your hero.

3) we're bringing someone else into the DB group.

I stated previosly that this propably meant that they liked both Worley and Bradberry on the outside, and projected Bene to play more nickel. But it could be the complete opposite as well, that they didn't like Bradberry and Worley as much as they hoped, and that they need to develop them more before they are ready. I don't think (and certainly don't hope) this is the case, but if so, they would need to clear way for another outside corner to come in... With Sanchez and possibly Bene in the nickel already, Borkin became expendable

Maybe but how do you explain Robert McClain then? He's still on the roster, his contract is basically the same as Boykin's and he has 1 year left on it.

Gettleman isn't infallible. This move proves that, IMO.

Nobody ever said Gettleman was infallible. The fact that you constant critics keep using this non-argument strawman only weakens *your* argument.

But, hypothetically, if people did believe Gettleman was infallible, in what way does cutting Boykin prove he isn't?

I truly think this is it, moreso than something being wrong with Boykin.

Also, again, the QB/WR combos we face, especially early, are relative lightweights.  Not sure if that was part of the thinking, but it's just a fact.
