N C State coach to Russell Wilson: "Son, you'll never play in the NFL."

Recommended Posts

Heel fan [who lives in a family of Pack fans] here, so take it fwiw:  this sounds all made up.  RW was daydreaming with O'Brien had to make a decision.  Glennon would have transferred, and then State would have been up poo's creek for real.  State actually did RW a favor and WAITED and WAITED on him to try and make up his mind.  They eventually had to move on.  This is some BULLSHIT by Russell Wilson.  You can't accept how your decisions affect your life, so you make up stories?  And on top of that you portray this preacher boy image?  Every miserable little State fan out there should be burning their Seahawks jerseys and breaking out their old Peppers jerseys.

Everybody and their mommas knew Wilson was not going to start over Mike Glennon. Just like everyone knew that Darron Thomas was not going to start over Marcus Mariota. Just like everyone knew that Malik Zaire would start at Notre Dame over Everett Golson. Hence the reason Golson transferred to FSU.

Just like everyone knows that Sam Bradford and Case Keenum days are numbered.

I remember being at FSU during Wilson's last year at NC State and it was an open secret that Wilson would have a very hard time keeping his job the next season over Glennon. Just like it was not a secret that Marcus Mariota would be the starting QB in Darron Thomas last season at OU no matter how good Thomas played in his final year.

And that is the reason why Wilson focused on baseball. He was done as NC State's starting QB unless Glennon went down with injuries.

Everyone needs to just stop the BS and admit: we thought Mike Glennon was the better option (just like Oregon and Notre Dame did) and therefore we let Wilson walk. It is not an unreasonable position to take that Glennon would be better than Wilson at NC State. That is fine.

But please stop pissing on our legs and telling us it is raining when it becomes apparent that you may have made a mistake. Own up to it and stop making sh*t up about "Oh, his heart wasn't in it."

This isn't accurate.

Russell, is that you? Because you're clearly making poo up.

If Russell wanted to come back and play (the whole time) all he had to do was say "I'm coming back this fall to play". But he wouldn't say that. He wouldn't commit to coming back because he truly thought he could be an MLB player (even though he had only ever been a mediocre college player). Once he started playing baseball full time then he realized that he was only ever going to been a middle of the road, minor league prospect.

Come the first of June, he called TOB and said he wanted to come back. At that time, he was told that he could be Glennons backup or be given his release because they had to move on because of his choice to play baseball.

He did what he had to do for himself and his "family". No one at NC State would have a problem anymore if he would keep his mouth shut but he won't. And even worse, when he opens his mouth he keeps spewing lie and lie.

This is accurate.

This is crap. It wasn't that Glennon was better. He was (and is) a very different style of QB, and the offense would be designed differently. He also had 2 years to play, vs. Wilson's one, and very likely would have transferred if Wilson came back. Nevertheless, Wilson could have returned if he'd junked baseball and committed to State FB in the spring. O'Brien did not want to keep the offense in limbo while he waited for Wilson to make up his mind, and personally, I don't blame him. By the time Wilson decided to commit to another year of college FB, his deadline was past. O'Brien became the bad guy, but it was Wilson who put him between a rock and a hard place. When Wilson finally said 'more FB please', it was a lose/lose situation for O'Brien.

I was a Wilson fan during AND after college. He was exciting to watch and I had to pull for the guy who nearly everyone (including most State fans) said had no chance in the NFL. Since he became Mr. Super Bowl QB though, I think the fame has gone to his head, which still isn't too tall for a doorway, but is now too wide. That, along with the unexpected rivalry with my Panthers, has made Wilson just another QB I hope to see flat on his back with a big ole Panther on top of him.
