Cam not diving for a fumble such a big deal?

lol  I've always just laughed off the comments of Cam being a chicken or scared.     I don't know what was going through his head,  but I have seen that guy run head first into the teeth of defenses,   I've seen him flip over defenders,  and push piles.....with zero caution.          I think Cam was hoping to get the ball batted his way,   to pick it up and try to convert  and get a new set of downs.

Yes, he should have dived for the ball.  The game was certainly not over as we were down by 6.  Of course, even if he recovered, it would have been 4th and 9 or so, so it would have been a difficult situation.  But he made a split second decision, and it was the wrong one.  The last in a series of mistakes the offense and special teams made in that game.

That being said, I am over it and lets bring on the new season.

For the first type of person who doesn't like Cam for whatever reason it will be something they will cite for the next 20 years, much like his celebration on the 2012 Thursday night game when we were getting blown out by the Giants.

For the rest of us the issue is dead.  Was Cam beaten, rattled and not having his best game? Yes absolutely.

Did Cam "tap out" and not want the football? No. QBs don't do fumble recovery drills and he ran to it, instead of diving/craddling the football.

Looking at his body of work I don't see how you can make this an issue.

Does it really matter if he dove for the ball or not? It was 3rd and 9, and Cam Newton appeared to be trying to pick the ball up to make a play to keep the drive alive.

People fail to realize he ended up being the only player on the ground with the ball at rest for a recovery.

The ball never bounced away from Cam. The ball was illegally batted away from Cam by Von Miller. The officials chose not to call the illegal bat. If the illegal bat was never allowed, then Cam Newton recovers it or the Panthers get the ball back after the penalty.

Also, the game was not over at that point. The score was 16-10 Broncos with 4 minutes left in the game. The Panthers would have punted the ball either way.

There were other plays/bad calls that impacted that game in favor of the Broncos. The 2015 Panthers are now the most penalized team in Super Bowl history.

The idiot announcers Jim Nantz and especially Phil Simms immediately destroyed Cam for not falling on it as if they could read Cam's mind.

That helped blow the thing entirely out of proportion, and gave all the people that had been looking for any reason to smash Cam the opportunity to do so.

Haters gonna hate.

I'll be honest, when I saw the play live I saw Cam look at the ball and act like he was going to dive on it. I even yelled out loud "Don't do it!" When I saw the other players that were diving at the ball too, I immediately thought the risk was too great. He would have dove and been lucky not to have one of those linemen hurt his hand, arm, ribs, etc. I don't question Cam's toughness at all in that scenario. He knows the risk was too great that he would get hurt.

Those choices are butt.

No is the answer but not because the game was already over.

I'm over the game and looking forward to the next, but from what I've seen out of Cam I have no reservations to trust his football skills.  Dive or dont he knows better than the rest of us put together and then some.

I have to keep arguing that one play doesnt define a career with these damn trolls. They wont let it go though. This play is sticking to Cam, just like Sanchez and his butt fumble. It sucks, only way to shut fugers up about it, is to win the superbowl and get redemption.
