Help me out football historians: what was going on in football in the late 1960s?

Actually, I got into football in 68 and 69 and was a life long Vikings fan (pre dome)

Went to the Super Bowl and lost to the Chiefs.  Loved the snow games

Cannot tell you at 8 years old a lot else, sorry

You bastard, you used to beat my Rams when they'd have to go to fricking Minneapolis and play in the elements.

Nothing better than watching warm weather teams go to the Met.  I must admit however, that i was scared to death of Jack Youngblood.  The dude was a man

Hate to tell ya Phil, but I wasn't born till 67 and didn't start watching till 72.

As far as actual personal experience, I can help you with the mid 70s and forward, but anything I tell you about earlier than that is just from study or watching old NFL Films.

So apparently I'm not the oldest guy on here.

Also, from a trivia standpoint, TV Guide (not sure it exists anymore) would have the Sunday afternoon game on a page with complete rosters, numbers and positions.  Took up about a half page by itself

Youngblood was incredible, but I'd be even more worried if this guy was after me.

Thanks a lot Mr Scot, like I don't get enough "old guy" crap already

I was a huge fan of Minnesota and the purple people eaters. Alan Page and Jim Marshall was my favorites on the DLine and of course Run for your life- Fran Tarkenton on offense. That was in the early to mid 60s. In 1967 and 1968, the amazing Joe Capp was the quarterback. Then Fran came back in the 70s and made a few Superbowl runs. But never won it.

anyone know more about the whole saints-giants division switcheroo that happened in 1967-68? the two guys dialoguing over this are alternatively from new york and alabama so that might be the way to go

Yeah I still think a guy, especially from Alabama. Namath is relevant.

That's exactly what happened. Namath signed a three-year, $427,000 contract -- which was a staggering sum at the time -- on national television the day after spectacularly leading the Crimson Tide to victory over Texas in Miami. The Jets even threw in a new car and employment for Namath's siblings to seal the deal.

Ya'll have fun, I'm out.
