CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Five players you probably haven’t heard a lot about that left an impression from the Carolina Panthers' two-day rookie minicamp that ended on Saturday:

Braxton Deaver: The tight end out of Duke seemingly caught everything thrown to him during this camp and will be considered for a roster spot. Were it not for injuries throughout his college career he possibly could have been drafted. At 6-foot-5, 245 pounds, he has the body to play the position in the NFL, and the Panthers are looking for depth behind two-time Pro Bowler Greg Olsen and Ed Dickson.

Eric Mac Lain: The Panthers are looking to add depth to the offensive line, giving the undrafted guard (6-4, 315) out of Clemson a solid chance to make this roster. He showed good skills in one-on-one drills and comes from a solid program in which he started the past three years. A former high school tight end, he’s athletic and possibly could back up at guard or tackle.

Devon Johnson: Coach Ron Rivera compared the fullback out of Marshall University to Pro Bowl fullback Mike Tolbert in that he’s a hybrid. He can play fullback, halfback and tight end. He looked solid catching the ball out of the backfield. The Panthers need a long-term replacement for Tolbert, who re-signed for two years, so they should consider Johnson for a roster spot.

Shaq Richardson: The cornerback out of Arizona had a solid camp and could add more competition to a young group if signed. This is not to suggest he’s moved ahead of second-round pick James Bradberry or third-round pick Daryl Worley, who had a good camp. But from what Rivera saw of the corners this weekend, he’s not in a hurry to sign a veteran in the quest to replace Pro Bowl selection Josh Norman.

Damiere Byrd: The second-year wide receiver out of South Carolina has added eight pounds to his 5-9 frame to become a more physical receiver since last year’s rookie camp. He hasn’t lost a step from the 4.28-second 40-yard dash time that caught the eye of Carolina coaches and ultimately landed him a spot on the practice squad. I could see him fitting in as a return specialist, even if he can’t crack the roster as a receiver.

Can someone call ESPN and let them know Damiere Byrd was on the team last year.

He does say "second year wide receiver" so it's pretty much implied. The whole blurb talks about him being on the practice squad last year.

Newton also tweeted about Rockhead potentially earning a spot. I guess it's good that Johnson is performing well, but Newton should know he's already on the team.
