The Boston Globe Thinks This Is Star's Last Year in Carolina

The cold reality is at some point the Panthers are going to lose more key players like they did with Josh Norman. This is what great teams go through.

The other point is that not everyone that we love is really a key player. The view from the stands and the view from the manager's office can be quite different.

I believe every player on this team has a performance bar they have to meet and a ceiling on how much they are worth to the organization. Stay above one bar and below the other one and you can have a long and storied career. Underperform or overcharge and it's "Thanks for your time, we sure enjoyed you."

And it is going to hurt us fans once in a while to see someone we love go. But in the end, it is all about chasing the rings.

Star will be here, by the end of 2017 that off-season Stewart's contract will be gone, I believe Thomas Davis will retire by then (age 36), Greg Olsen will be (age 34) iirc off the top of my head. It will be time for the 2013-2014 rookies to be extending as the new guard // core.

No sir, but guys need to stop acting like just because a guy is coming up on free agency he's leaving. If we are willing to pay Star the 5th year option (which was offered a few weeks back) which is 6-7 million in value that season, I'm quite sure the F.O. is willing to extend a long term offer.

Star doesn't strike me as Norman did as far as looking to be the highest paid at his position, the few times I've even heard  Star speak he comes across as incredibly humble, (this is not a knock on Norman) but just pointing out differences in their personality via outside perception. I don't think Star looks to be the ''highest paid" NT.

I think our DL core will be Ealy, Short, Star, Cox, Butler, Delaire >>> and I'm hoping the 6'7 270 lb Peppers'esque Larry Webster III turns into something as he is the most athletic DE we have currently stashed on the PS.

We have Cam and Luke under long term deals with a ton of cap money.  I can't see Star leaving unless he forces himself out of town.  D-line is too important to Gettleman.

Or he wants to move back West

Star is a HUGE family man. Both literally and figuratively.

How devout of a Mormon is he? The Charlotte Mormon community isn't exactly thriving from my knowledge so that could be a factor as well if he wants to go back west.

I don't know many Mormons that aren't devout.

Go figure, it's the Globe. The worse of the two Boston papers. You take what they say with a grain of a ghost pepper. Being originally from Mass, the Globe was the little sister to the Herald, would do anything to get attention. Take that for what it's worth. As for Star, with his 5th yr being picked up, he's got 2 yrs to basically prove he's worth a long term deal, we all know CJ, Kyle and any of the old DL guys won't be back. Star needs to stay healthy on top of it. That's the key to all of it.

The article implied that the Panthers aren't happy with Star's performance, which is ludicrous IMO.  Both he and Short have performed as good or better than the team wanted.  Now as to whether he will be here long term or not, that will depend on how much he wants to stay here and how much money he wants and if the amount he wants is close to what the team is willing to pay.

Given our draft, I wouldn't be opposed to trading him next offseason if Vernon shows promise and an ability to play Star's position. I don't think they decline the option, though.

Butler's potential bonus seems more like a play against KK than Star.  So if KK is unreasonable with a new deal.....they have Butler.

Star pretty much is Star.  KK nor Butler IMO can do what he does
