lmgdao... probably will end up in the top 10 WRs of all time list, easily, and that with a majority of poo-scrub QBs around him... but if you're a fan, you are a player worshiper... HAHA

Put Steve Smith in Marvin Harrison's position and Steve Smith is currently #2 or #3 all time WR right now... GTFO with that bullshit...

Are you Steve Smith?  You seem to be too emotionally attached to a guy the doesn't give two shits about this franchise anymore.  Maybe you should think about being a ravens fan?   Anyway, 89 will not be retired so go cry to someone that gives a damn.

I am not saying this to argue against your point but just a general response. Smith had his best season during Moose's Bears years but he also played with Moose for some good seasons as well. In retrospect that is about as good of a receiver combo as you will find. Proehl with in that mix  early too. The run game was no slouch then either.  I will give you that 2005 was all Smith.

So you can say we had a good team in 2003, 2005 and 2008. But still who did Smitty have to help him in the passing game. Moose beyond his prime and who else.  Sure we had a decent running game in 2008 but most of the time our running game was persistent but not always effective. In other words we ran whether it worked or not.

I think our receiver group this year including Olsen will be our best ever. Smith had Moose and little else. And then not that long. Mooses best year was 2004 when Smith was hurt all year and then moved on to Chicago. By the time he came back Moose was not a huge factor anymore.

Good point.

So we'll retire Thomas Davis's number then.

Lol. If you think that Smitty isn't the greatest panther of all time you never watched him play. Not to take away from the fire and play of Davis. But really...He isn't even the best LB we've ever had. Nor was he ever the face of the franchise the way smith was.

Jesus Christ people,Steve smith issues lies with our general manager.....no one else, he has never came out and said fug panthers fans or publicly disrespected JR. So can we quit living in make believe land

For real. He even said Charlotte was still his home, still loves the fans here etc...Only had beef with some of the FO.

he was seeking a trade/wanted to be released and had to be convinced to stay after 2010.  don't go rewriting history.

and dave releasing steve was still the right decision.  at this point it's just your gut feeling if you disagree and one game in 2014 doesn't make the difference you think it does.

e: and any hypotheticals where steve smith singlehandedly defeats the broncos (a year after he said he would retire if the panthers had retained after all him in case anyone forgot) in the super bowl don't sway me either

Uhh, am I supposed to think less of him because he considered switching teams after 13 years and didn't? Because...

these posters like tiger_87 who just started watching the panthers play need to stay out of threads like this

Yeah, fug off, seriously.

I've been watching the NFL since the 1960's and I can damn sure make my own judgments about players whether or not I was a fan of the team or not at the time.  And I sure as hell have every right to make comments about it.

So, yeah... fug right the hell off with your "if you weren't around you don't have the right" BS.

But you feel free to keep your nose stuck up that conceited asshole's butt crack, ya here?

Those cameras are always rolling and flashing when he's washing those feet though, aren't they?  HE'S JUST LIKE JESUS!

Jesus, though, had words of description about those who stand on the street corner, loudly making sure everyone else knows all about their piety.

And Jesus didn't have a violent temper and beat the holy crap out of Peter, Matthew, and Luke early in his career either.

Still think the FO beef realistically is enough for the "born to be a Raven"'not to officially retire here.

again, don't see 89 signing with Gettlemen to do it.   And not signing that one day deal with Gettlemen won't mean he doesn't like the city or his time here.  But 89 is crazy....and crazy don't suck it up and play nice

dont think technically retiring with a team means much...at least to this fan it won't.  89 will be the 2nd greatest in team history...and was the first to be the greatest.  Loved 89.
