Panthers are frugal as hell!

KK, Star, Kony, Shaq, Klein, Boston, Bene and the 3 rookie DB's are all on rookie contracts, KK and Star are likely to get paid as well as Coleman will be retained.  Let's just say, the underspending is represented by anticipation of what's coming down the line.

It will probably change, but I can't help feeling we drafted a DT in the first round, with an eye towards giving us some flexibility regarding resigning Starr/Short.

That was my initial feeling to, but when I think about it, we were incredibly successful with A gap pressure.  It's not something a lot of teams can accomplish, and between our dominant tackles and blitzes by Kuechly and Davis (soon to be Shaq added here I think), I have a feeling that this type of pressure will be the standard in our defense.  Because of that, a constant influx of dominant DT's will be a focal point for gettleman and the goal of our DE's will be more about containment than sack numbers (although, sack numbers would be nice too).

Yeah, I'm a Gettleman fan, but the next 2-3 seasons and we'll see how good he is. He stepped into a perfect storm for his talents, now, can he maintain a competitive team for years? The blue print is there, New England. And everybody wants to be NE. Hated.

So that must mean that the majority of our money is spent on Offense. So we ARE trying to be good to Cam. I know that percentage is going to change soon. But we do have guys on the Offense that are going to need to be paid too. All this shtuff is going to be cool to see develop.

Our three top cap hits for this upcoming season are Cam of course at 19 million, Kalil at just over 10 million, and JStew at a little over 9.  That is almost as much as the entire defense tied up in three players.  My feeling is that will change somewhat after this season.

I would expect that Kalil's, and Stewy's, numbers will go down next year. Either through extensions, restructures, or even out right cuts. But even with those two going down, we have a bunch of Offensive players who are going to need to be paid. KB, Trai, Norwell, and maybe Fun Fun for starters.

So even though some numbers will go down, we still have guys who will be needing to be paid. But, with our team's philosophy, I would expect that once the Defense takes over the pay scale, it will probably stay that way for a while. We are a Defensive team. We just happen to have a darn good Offense as well.
