Gettleman: we only had one guy rated higher when we picked Bradberry, a defensive tackle

Do you think Gettlemen would actually admit if the Saints stole Bell from us?

Serious question, because I don't know.

I doubt it...but I'm cynical, skeptical and all that.

No chance in hell would he admit that publicly if it was true, but someone in the draft room might leak that he was top of the board.

Maybe, he's so open about who he has ranked higher and lower that I could see him just not caring about the perception that it leaves. I was surprised he even admitted that Bradberry wasn't his number 1 guy, so I wouldn't put it past him.

Regardless of who went before---Considering the talent available when we picked him and given DGs drafting in the past, this Bradberry could be good off the bat.  I see a lot of people talking about it taking a bit but I think he has potential to be out there quite soon and effective.

I've had a chance to watch quite a bit of draftbreakdown stuff on Worley, including watching breakdowns of his defensive teammates and offensive players on opposing teams.

if either of the outside corner rookies is raw, it's probably Worley, and part of what may seem raw about him is him possibly.. kinda.. baiting the QB into throws by letting receivers get past him initially. clearly like all rookies he'll have his share of technique issues to sort out, but the press and chase stuff is his bread and butter. perfect fit for this defense. I could be misreading it and he's got more problems than I thought, and I imagine Wilks and the D staff will want to minimize any baiting tendencies he might have, especially in the beginning. But whatever he was doing, it got him 6 picks last year, and teams were definitely avoiding his side of the field for big chunks of games. most of the times they would attack him, they'd stack two receivers on his side with the tight end, forcing Joseph up to the line, and Worley would lay back in zone coverage, and they'd then throw a smoke screen or a route in the flat, and force him to get around a block. which, by the way, he did fairly well considering.

unsurprisingly, it's harder to find good footage of Bradberry, so I'm not sure I'm in a position to give a solid opinion on him right now. the footage I did watch, his technique was consistent and pretty similar to stuff that the Panthers do. but then, he wasn't challenged at the line quite as much in the footage I saw. he's a big dude with long arms for a CB, so it might be a case where the Southern Conference just doesn't have guys that can present much of a challenge for him. I'd love to see a cutup of this year's game against Louisville, though.

Sounds like Bradbury is a good player. DG seems very high on him, and he is right way more than he's wrong. So I feel much better now after hearing that. We are going to be okay.

You wouldn't expect him to say different though. It's not like he or any other GM is going to come out and say, "Yeah, we drafted this guy in the 2nd round. He's OK. He'll probably suck and be a big bust, but there's an outside chance he figures it out and turns into a great player so that's why we drafted him."

Keanu Neal was "the top player on the Falcons board"

Bucs didn't draft a kicker, they drafted a "weapon"

I trust that Gettleman made a good pick but not because he tells me he did because literally everyone says that.

    • So this has been one of my biggest concerns with Canales and it's the downside of having some young offensive guy who doesn't have full staff control. like what is the org chart for this decision?  With canales, who does he know or has worked with that he can tap? He hasn't been in Seattle in 2 seasons and all those guys are gone anyway. He wasn't even that high up on the org chart in Seattle so it's unclear who he would have regularly interacted with. QB coaches generally aren't going to be in the split squad meetings, at least not regularly. Just glancing at the coaching staff, Clint Hurt jumps out. He was DC in 2022 and is currently the dline coach in Philadelphia, but that team is the brainchild of roseman and i'd be very hesitant to bring in someone who was allowed to walk from seattle and would be having a SUBSTANTIAL decline in talent here in Carolina. With Tampa, that defense is a shambles and fans want Bowles out. It's a very top heavy coaching staff too; Bowles is very involved so there isn't some bright up and comer, from what Bucs fans elsewhere have said. Someone from the Bills maybe? Morgan was last there in 2020. Who could he call? No one established is going to take that position for a few reasons. There very little talent on that side of the ball, so you're not getting the rockstar mercenaries to come here. They're probably going to struggle to bring in some hot up and comer, since anyone with ambition is going to see how Tepper handled evero's request to interview for other positions and not want to deal with that. That's a problem the team has created on its own and I don't know how to fix it until they have someone leave for a promotion, which is going to be difficult with how dogshit this franchise is. And then, any agent is going to tell their client that the Panthers let the whole defense eat poo heading into 2023 just to "give bryce weapons." they let two starters walk and traded away a third. who would want to come in to this? how are you going to build/retain talent? There's only a few logical possibilities from my perspective 1. Someone out of nowhere who just crushes their interview 2. Someone from a good defense promoted WAY earlier than they should be and you just hope for the best 3. Extend Evero. I know a lot of people hate this but I think it's going to be the best option. This is the problem with Canales as coach. I don't want to go into what I think about the offense in this post, today or as it projects, but it's just not going to be easy for him to assemble a staff, if he even has the power to do so. For all we know Morgan is handling all defensive positions and hires. unclear org charts are a hallmark sign of a poorly run organization. I dunno. i think it's lowkey the biggest problem on the team, even moreso than the QB position.
