Smith's showing serious interest in buying Panthers

Back when I heard some first hand accounts of some pretty serious drug issues with one of the Richardson sons. I cannot recall which one. He was known for his antics at Charlotte bars. I would think that played in to his father's reasoning.

Me thinks the other current investors will step up to the plate and buy out JRs shares.  They have plenty of money to do so.

Would they still need a majority owner to be the face? One of those would likely be best it seems.

We all heard Bruton's quote about buying Panthers and now his son is echoing those sentiments. Halftime shows would be lawn mower races and flaming school bus bingo but at least buyer would be CLT based.

So you couldn't have posted this in the .........

"worst tragedy in Carolina football history" thread ??

I'm not up to date on all the particulars but JR and or his estate doesn't have to sell to anyone in particular...I mean they aren't forced to sell to the highest bidder per se right?

Sell it to who you want for a 1.2 bil and like my stance on the JNo situation...is 1.5 bil really better than 1.2 bil if it goes to a shitty owner and you watch the business/team your father built turn into ashes/poo....call me crazy again but I'd be fine with a little less money if it means the team will be left in good/classy hands.

Ok, so for those out of state here... why is this guy such a clown?

He bought NASCAR tracks and closed them down so he could move races to Kansas and Chicago. Rockingham is one of the best ghost towns ever.

The problem would be that Smith has used the track as leverage for getting tons of local money.  With all of the NFL money, I am utterly terrified what would happen to the Panthers.

Also, as much crap is passed around about JR, the players believe in him.  They want to win a championship for HIM.  A new owner would change the dynamic.  What if the new owner wanted to be more hands on like a Dan Snyder?  The new owner has to be the right owner.  That's going to be the hardest and most difficult aspect

How many teams have done well lately with new owners who aren't football people?  I am curious because I don't know.
