2016 NFL MVP Odds

Cam Newton is the favorite to repeat this season. Luke Kuechly is listed at 250:1.

Carson Palmer and Tom Brady, who were the only players other than Newton to receive MVP votes are listed at 14:1 and 15:1 odds, respectfully

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton finished the 2015 regular season with a league-leading 45 total touchdowns, becoming the first player in NFL history to account for at least 30 passing TDs and 10 rushing TDs in a single season. The stats and the Panthers' 15-1 record earned Newton the league MVP award, but will the QB be able to repeat in 2016?

According to one sportsbook, Newton is a 7:2 favorite to win the league MVP this season, ahead of Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (4:1), who won the award in 2011.

Carson Palmer and Tom Brady, who were the only players other than Newton to receive MVP votes in February, are listed at 14:1 and 15:1 odds, respectfully.

Looking for a longshot? Look no further than a QB that has taken plenty of shots this offseason — Johnny Manziel, who is currently unemployed and is listed at 5,000:1.

The team odds of 8:1-14:1 or thereabouts to win it all is a better play.  We will not be denied as a team this year.  Cam is/will be the GOAT, but this year they'll find a reason to give MVP to someone else if even remotely possible and KB is going to be such a freak they'll grade on a curve.  We will also play winning, not necessarily stat padding football, and while our schedule IS easier than last year due to opponent QBs, we will play tougher defenses.

Cam forced the hands of voters last year. Best believe many voters were gritting their teeth casting their vote. One slip up and Brady or Palmer would have taken it.

Agreed.

Just look at the 2 morons who didn't vote for him.

JJ Watt and Antonio Brown at 100-1? I'd take that bet.

Probably just be throwing money away.  The last defensive player to 1in the MVP was LT and that was 30 years ago in 1986.  Before then?  1971.  That concludes the list of defensive players to win the MVP.  A WR has never won the MVP.

In fact, LT was the last guy to win the MVP who wasn't a QB or RB.  30 straight years of QBs and RBs with the list skewing heavily to QB.

The smart money is on a QB.  If you're gonna bet on a non-QB, pick a RB.

That is my biggest peeve with the whole MVP award, its not even who is most valuable player to their team, it's who's the best offensive player.  That already has its own award.

However, if it's the most valuable player to the league, then yeah, its always gonna be a QB or RB.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
