Four players who spent time on Carolina's practice squad in 2015 – defensive tackle Chas Alecxihicon-article-link.gif, wide receiver Damiere Byrdicon-article-link.gif, defensive end Rakim Coxicon-article-link.gif and guard Reese Dismukesicon-article-link.gif – will also participate, as will four others signed to future contracts in January (defensive tackle Eric Crumeicon-article-link.gif, cornerback Travell Dixonicon-article-link.gif, wide receiver Cobi Hamiltonicon-article-link.gif and guard Tyler Larsenicon-article-link.gif).

Below is a complete list of the tryout players. Last year, Carolina signed five invited tryouts to the roster. The Panthers currently have five open spots on their 90-man roster.

Shaquille Richardson (born March 21, 1992) is an American football cornerback who is currently a free agent. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He played college football at Arizona.

The Rams finished their draft by picking up picked up a second defensive player, selecting Memphis defensive end Martin Ifedi with the No. 227 pick.

So 8 future contracts won't be participating: Marcus Ball, Brian Blechen, Ras-I Dowling, David Foucault, Donald Hawkins, David Yankey, Matt Masifilo, and Larry Webster.

Edgar Salmingo of Panthers Wire has an interview with the tryout QB from Samford, Michael Eubank

Undrafted and unsigned after the draft, the 6-foot-6 and 247-pound quarterback was one of the fortunate few who was offered the opportunity to tryout this weekend for Carolina. As he prepares for his big audition, we were fortunate to have Eubank join us for an interview to discuss his journey to Carolina.

It all started when the Panthers showed interest in Eubank prior to the 2016 NFL draft. “[Carolina Panthers quarterbacks] coach Ken Dorsey and I had a conversation previously. He really likes what I can do, he likes my skill set, he likes my build, he also likes how I can deliver the ball,” said Eubank. “Having me tryout is just another way for them to be able to further evaluate me and scout me a lot more closely. [They want to] get me in their base offense to see if I can fit the scheme and fit the certain things they like to run.”

“I am very familiar running the zone-read offense”

Judging by his experience and his game tape, he definitely fits the zone-read offense that Carolina likes to employ. When asked about his comfort level with this type of offense, he was ecstatic. “I am very familiar running the zone-read offense. I’ve been running it since high school. [Dorsey] saw a lot of designed runs from me on my film. That’s definitely something I’m very comfortable doing.”

In addition to talking about his own play, he talked about our new CB, his former teammate James Bradberry:

“I know James really well. We call him ‘Blue’ at Samford,” Eubank said.

And after spending a few years with him at Samford, he feels that the Panthers selected an excellent prospect. “He’s a very, very, very good player and I compliment him highly,” Eubank said. “I think the Panthers are getting one hell of a player and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to throw some more passes against him [this weekend].”

But what does he feel makes Bradberry so successful? “He’s a very hard worker. He’s a quiet guy, he does all his talking on the field,” Eubank said. “[He is a] very long range corner, his arms are freakishly long and he can jam the receiver while still having room for himself. He has speed, he’s fast, he’s a ballhawk and he’s always around the ball. He’s very disruptive.”

Given that I'm particularly interested in seeing us add depth at OT, I thought I'd see what I could find on these 5 tryout guys:

Chris Martin:

2014 draft profile  (not too exciting)

was signed as a UDFA by the Patriots in 2014, was on their PS for a while.  ...  was with Dolphins in 2015 then waived and picked up again by the Patriots when they needed Oline depth.

Not sure if he was with other teams in between Pats & Miami.  Don't think he's played in any games other than pre-season.

***

Richard Muldrow - has been playing Arena Football for the New Orleans Voodoo for 2 seasons ... there are some YouTube clips with highlights online

***

Amadou Komtethis guy is MASSIVE.  On the Panthers tryout list he's listed as 6'6, but on his college page he's listed as 6'7 or 6'8.  Looking at the clips online I could believe the 6'8

Jordan Rigsbee from Cal:  (Ron will secretly be rooting for him one has to think!)

Draft Profile:

In 2014, Rigsbee moved again, this time to the right side of the offensive line where he played tackle. That year he was part of an offense, led by Goff, that broke school records for total offense per game, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. The next season, Rigsbee found himself in his fourth different starting spot, making 13 starts at right guard. The offense again set single-season school records for total offense, passing yards, and passing scores.

On an offensive line that deservedly took its fair share of criticism last season, Rigsbee was the team’s most consistent blocker. He had his issues with pass blocking at times, but he was a very strong run blocker, leading the way for an offense that totaled 152.8 rush yards per game and 4.5 yards per carry, both the most by the Bears since Rigsbee’s freshman season in 2012. Rigsbee experienced his most success as a pulling guard on an outside run, or as a lead blocker on screen passes. His most powerful block came on a running back screen, creating room for Tre Watson to go 45 yards to the endzone.

Cal Career (2011-15)

  • Made 49 career starts over the final four campaigns of his five seasons with the program after redshirting as a true freshman and was the only Cal only player to have started every game possible from 2012-15 as one of only two active Cal players to have participated in each of those 49 contests with the other punter Cole Leininger
  • Made his 49 starts on the offensive line at four different positions, starting his first 16 games at left guard (all 12 as a 2012 freshman, first four as a 2013 sophomore), his next eight at center as a sophomore, his next 12 at right tackle as a 2014 junior and his last 13 at right guard as a 2015 senior
  • Added one fumble recovery as a sophomore vs. UCLA and three tackles with a career-high-tying one on three occasions at Texas as a senior after single stop both at Utah and vs. Oregon during his sophomore campaign

Senior (2015)

  • Started a career-high-tying 13 games without missing any contests
  • Considered one of the top offensive linemen for a group that has helped the Bears set numerous records including single-season school marks in passing yardage (4,892), passing yards per game (376.3 ypg), passing touchdowns (44), total offense (6,879), total yards per game (529.2 ypg), total touchdowns (63), scoring offense (37.9 ppg, modern-era record), first downs (341) and first downs passing (201)
  • Helped to lead the way on the offensive line for an offensive unit that ranked third nationally in passing offense, eighth in total offense and 17th in scoring offense, with all of the numbers second in the Pac-12, as well as a team that led the Pac-12 and ranked tied for 10th nationally in first downs and boasted a third-down conversion percentage (46.1%) that was second in the Pac-12 and 14th nationally
  • Recorded his third career tackle and lone stop of the season at Texas
  • Earned Cal's Brick Muller Award as its most valuable offensive lineman
  • Selected as a team captain by his teammates for the first time
  • Selected by Lindy's prior to the season as the No. 5 draft-eligible offensive guard prospect

Tyrell Smith - U Mass.

TFY Draft Insider’s Tony Pauline projected Smith as a seventh-round pick in a June 2015 evaluation, but said he had promise:

“Left tackle Tyrell Smith has the makings of a starter at the next level. He’s been a two-year starter, possesses terrific pass protection skills and does a good job run blocking.”

NFLDraftScout.com had Smith ranked No. 69 out of 175 offensive tackles in the 2017 draft.

It’s unclear how his 2015 season affected perception of him.

Kris Frost was a beast at Butler but was just average at Auburn.

He could make the PS squad though

Smart kid.  Strong.  High character.

Not very instinctive on the field though which makes him look slower on the field than he actually is.

(Is Butler the high school he went to?)

So, sight unseen, I'm going to go way out on a limb and say that we'll add two of these tryout OTs to our roster.  We have more TEs (6) on our current roster of 85 players than tackles (5), for goodness sake!

Only 5 OTs (counting PS / futures guys).  We didn't draft any.  We didn't sign and UDFA tackles....

I'm sure Gettleman has a plan.... but seriously, I'd think we'd want to go into camp with 7 or 8 OTs.  Last year we initially had 7 OTs on the roster in July, then Jonathan Martin announced his retirement and we added 2 other OTs to replace him, so went into Training Camp with 8.

Butler is a Charlotte high school with a really good football program.
