About those corners...

I dont really care who he drafted or what position they are or how they are ranked by some sports reporter 

Four  questions worth asking

1. How does a GM let an All Pro walk and get nothing?  Nada. Zero. Zip  an additional second or third round pick could have made a lot of difference this year

2.  How did anything done during this draft make the Panthers one bit better against premier defenses   Seems to me the defensive backfield wasn't the reason for that super bowl loss or the beating Newton took from Atlanta   Speed against slow tackles, kills

3.  Aging and injury prone RB with third stringers behind them and an aging center in constract year

4  edge rushers

If he finds a replacement for Norman, good for him but giving away an All Pro and getting nothing for it, not smart and then the ancillary impact of wasting not two but three draft picks to fill the void.  This  offense needs upgrades.  Gettlemen would do well to consider Newton's replacement in two years as his body can't take the beating he is getting

Gettleman isn't infallible. Only time will tell if this draft is proof of that.

Wait a sec! You mean we should trust Dave Gentleman to pick the best players to make our team better?  How crazy! What has he done in the NFL? Compared to Mel Kiper's hair or Todd McShay's tan?

I think everyone fails to realize that we aren't pros. NFL guys are pros and Dave Gentleman was named the best in the NFL. The more deep reading, I think he made the choices he did becuase they were the bestlong term solutions for us. We went to the Super Bowl without these rookies and we haven't really lost anyone from the team outside of Cotchery, Harper and Allen.

A-men @Zod we got great value with all these guys and the position group is set for years to come. Easy to forget we got Norman in the 5th out of a FCS school and developed him (kicking and screaming) into one of the best at what he does.

He'll get a 2017 third round pick out of it, that's a 4th pick in the top 100 of what projects to be a stronger draft.

IMO the offensive line is the most difficult position to evaluate and, even then, a highly rated "fit" can still be a failure in the NFL.

Just look at the highly drafted OTs that have come in the league over the last few years that everyone thought would be great players and anchors. 

Many people thing OL is like caveman "ug... ball snap then push guy hard"... but, to me, its probably the most difficult position to play on the field.  Especially OT.  Which makes it VERY difficult to find players that not only fit your offensive scheme but can successfully translate to the NFL level of performance and physicality.

That's why he's a GM and most are just biatches making ignorant comments behind the social media curtain.

We averaged (off the top of my head) 31 points per game last season, and absolutely embarrassed 2 of the 3 teams we faced in the playoffs...  Newton wasn't running for his life...  We allowed 33 sacks for the season...  Sure, we had 2 poor showings (1 against a historically good defense)...  Sure we can use some OL upgrades, but overall they did a very solid job...

On the other side of the ball, we were bringing in street FA's in the defensive backfield every couple weeks, and relying on veterans who are WAY past their prime to keep things together for us...  Yeah, losing Norman sucks......  But not as bad as having to start Robert McClain in the biggest game of the season because you had no one else...

That's how this draft made us better

You know, the ones that were not mock draft projected until later rounds. My answer is simply... who cares? 

Dave Gettleman, the best talent evaluator in the NFL, pinpoints with laser sharp accuracy the players he wants the most, and he goes out and gets them. As long as Gettleman gets the players he covets the most, I honestly have no interest in what rounds they came in, and neither should you. 

Earlier this week, the least talented position on the entire roster was corner back. Last year, the Panthers literally went out and picked up guys off of their couches and still made it to the Superbowl. 

So guess what, Gettleman went out and got the three best corners. No, not the three best on walterfootballdotcom or other draftnik websites. The three best corners for the PANTHERS SYSTEM. In this year's NFL draft you had 3 elite corners, all taken by pick 11. All of the rest are as much a roll of the dice as the next.

Unless, of course, you have a proven system in place and the talented coaching staff to implement it. Then you target specific physical characteristics and abilities and mold them in to what you want. 

Which is EXACTLY what the Panthers just did. Do not take that for granted, not all teams have that ability. The Panthers went out and found two large zone corners and a ball hawking nickel. Job done. 

In short, if you are upset that the players Gettleman drafted were not rated higher on silly draft websites, take issue with those websites. Do not take issue with the guy that is the gold standard for NFL talent evaluation... Dave Gettleman.

I agree 100% about the corners and the coffee. Add in that we stole Jeremy Cash, our secondary will be set for years to come with Boston, Marlowe, Cash, Jones, Bene, Bradberry, Sanchez, and Worley. These guys behind our front 7? Heck yeah!

If we can find guys like Norwell & Turner then there will be other guys smiliar to pick up on draft days. For top rated guys that failed there are little less talent players that succeeded like Terron Armstead, D.J. Humphries, etc.

We drafted 3 of the same position in a row.

We traded away picks.

The analysts hate all of it. (Huddle does too)

I love how this draft was 100% focused on the team's long term success.

We just lost Josh Norman, Charles Tillman, and Cortland Finnegan. We were dangerously thin at CB late last season, especially after Bene's leg broke. Now, we have two corners in the same mold as JNo, a nickel for when Boykin's 1-yr deal is up, a back-up for Olsen, and another body for the rotation at DT (which both of our starters are due for new contracts). Wilks and the coaching staff have proved themselves to be effective teachers with an effective system.

I'm a huge fan of the Sandland pick. What little of the combine I did get to watch was the TEs and he was one of maybe 2 outside of Hunter Henry that jumped out.
