Seriously, getting Garret and Cash is like having more 2nd and 3rd round picks.

yup . Ask most people before the draft they probably would have told you neither of those two would have lasted beyond round 5.

Love this list of UDFAs so far.

The one area really lacking in the draft and now the UDFAs, however, is Oline, esp tackles.  With Oher and Remmers in contract years, and Kalil also, we're potentially looking at turnover in the Oline next year.

Need to be developing guys behind our starters and make sure we have the next man up lined up.  Gradkowski and Scott seem like stopgaps.   Daryl Williams looks solid, but hasn't been tested.  Foucault is still a mystery,,, no evidence yet that he's turned into someone who can make the roster.  Hawkins I don't know much about...  Even our depth at guard is thinner than last year with Amini gone.  (Though last I heard he hadn't signed anywhere yet, so I suppose we can bring him back...)

I'm eager to see what G'man's plan is for Oline depth.  Right now it's lacking.

No panic.  There will be options.  The Jaguars are looking to trade Joeckel among a litany of other options.

C-S-R writer Durst did pre-draft profiles of three of the players we've signed as UDFAs.  Lots of info:

S Jeremy Cash

http://www.derp/2016/4/14/11319090/2016-nfl-draft-potential-panther-jeremy-cash

An Excerpt:

Last season, Cash recorded 101 tackles (18 for loss), 2.5 sacks, four pass breakups and a trio of forced fumbles.

According to NFL.com's Lance Zierlein, 33 of his 98 tackles (33.7 percent) came within two yards of the line of scrimmage.

Cash earned Pro Football Focus' No. 1 grade among safeties against both the run and as a pass-rusher.

According to PFF, Cash made at least 45 defensive stops and 70 solo tackles in each of the past two seasons. Used a lot as a pass-rusher, he blitzed 135 times over the past two seasons (60-plus in each), generating nine sacks, 15 hits and 21 hurries from those rushes.

However, he allowed a completion percentage of 70.7% with a passer rating of 102.5 to opposing quarterbacks.

Finally PFF notes just 2% of Cash's snaps came at safety, compared to 41% in the slot, and 57% at linebacker.

WR Keyarris Garrett

Last season, as a fifth-year senior, Garrett caught a whopping 96 passes, for nation-leading 1,588 yards, with eight touchdowns.

According to Matt Harmon's Reception Perception, Garrett lined up 97.6% on the right side and only 2% of the time in the slot.  Nearly 40% of his routes were slants, double the average.  His 72.7% conversion rate on contested catches was tied for fourth among 21 receivers studied, however his broken tackle percentages were rather poor.

It was perplexing to see him so regularly go down on first contact. Garrett was out "in space" on 15.8 % of his routes, the second highest rate in the class, but was brought down on first contact on 69 % of those attempts (average was 52.8%)

ProFootballFocus ranked him 77th in their recently released top-100, and noted Garrett dropped just three of the 99 catchable passes thrown his way in 2015.  How did he catch 96 passes, with only three drops? In the summer before 2015, Garrett would catch 300 tennis balls a day, shot 40 miles per hour out of the machine, from about seven yards away.

Hey, maybe Ginn, Hill & Benji could try that tennis ball trick... heck, Brown too...

There's also an interesting link to a SI feature article on Garrett on his recovery from a terrible broken leg in 2013.... very interesting reading:

Finally, by another C-S-R writer, a less comprehensive profile of RB Devon Johnson:

The player I'm profiling today is well known to NFL scouts and GMs but is not widely known to the general public since he's from a small program with limited media coverage. He is a senior who has been a solid contributor throughout his collegiate career.

At Marshall University he began as an undersized tight end who had good hands but was primarily used to provide superior pass protection. In his sophomore year, the herd tried using him as a short yardage ball carrier and he was very successful. In only 5 carries he was able to score 3 touchdowns. As a junior, he was permanently moved into the offensive backfield to be used as a physical runner and to enhance protection on passing downs. Embracing the move, he surpassed the expectations of both coaches and teammates with his production as a ball carrier. His senior season has been a struggle as injuries have limited his playing time. The reduced production may result in his draft stock being diminished...

[...] there can be no doubt that he brings an intensity and attitude to the field with him.Check out this link. My thinking is that he would be a plug and play replacement Richie Brockel. On top of that, he may prove himself as successor to Unrestricted Free Agent, Mike Tolbert. Seven years younger and much less costly (Tolbert cost about $3.5M this season), he could aid in reducing the Panthers' cap number without decreasing the talent at the H-Back position. He has the rare combination of good hands as a receiver, superior pass blocking skills, and proven production as a power runner. To get a true picture of his value, check his junior year highlights. His stellar play in the first two games this year shows he was well on his way to another outstanding season before injuries reduced his effectiveness.

From what I just read on Garret, he lined up on the right side 95.7% of all snaps, over 90% of his yds last year came off slant and go's, seem routes, and hitch and go's.

Havubg said that, Ricky Proehl will do wonders on the kid. This move just made Stephen Hill a very very nervous man

yup, I think it's between him and Hill for the last roster spot.

Not sure why everyone is saying this is like having a couple extra 2-3 round picks with Cash and Garret.. If they were valued by ANY team anywhere close to the 3rd round, they wouldn't have made it past 250+ picks... I get it's exciting and all but let's see how they perform in camp first
