Did Denver win because of their defensive line, or defense as a whole?

Improving our defense isn't gonna fix our problems we had against Denver.  Their defense and ST scored for them mostly due to our offense not being able to protect Cam, run block, or get open/catch.

Den had the best DBs in the NFL....and best DL pressure.

We have the best DTs and LBs.

Which seems a bit archaic in an increasingly pass heavy league utilizing more spread formations and more WRs on the field.

Denver is built to rush the passer while their DBs each lock their man up.  Our defense is built to get pressure before our DBs get exposed.

So what's the issue then?  What made their DBs so good?  Really good DL maybe?  Their DBs aren't close to the best on almost any other team, except maybe ours.

We don't have any more draft picks?

You remember we don't draft for need, right?

How did you react to last year's picks before we went 15-1 and went to the Super Bowl?

BPA is a complex thing.

Varies team to team and GM to GM.  Our GM has a preference and that influences what he deems BPA.  Another GM could lean toward offense and then BPA is nothing like Gettlemen's view.

Shaq was viewed as someone that would have little impact overall on the season because of a stacked LB corp. Which overall was true.  But you could argue the one game he really had a key role (AZ) was totally worth it.  But we also knew he wasn't drafted for 2015 and would be groomed for TDs job

Did we lose the superbowl because of our defensive line or defense as a whole?

Did you watch the Superbowl? Neither. If you really want to point at one spot it would have been the oline, but honestly we just had a really bad team game. Our best performance was probably from Kony Ealy. So unless you planned on reaching for an offensive tackle, I'm not sure your argument makes much sense.

Edit: I think I misunderstood your point. Still there wasn't an oline worth taking and that's the only true offensive weakspot.

This guy could legitimately be better than either Star or KK. Everyone hating this pick will look like the folks who bashed Hurney for drafting Luke when we already had Jon Beason or Ryan Kalil when we already had Justin Hartwig.

What do you base this on?  Seriously, I see a lot of people acting like this is some great player, but where are they getting that impression from?  Other than the fact that Gettleman took him and the positives in various media evaluations, what makes people think he is worth the pick.

I'm truly not asking to be a smartass, but I really want to know.  I felt better about him until I went and watched the few gametapes Draftbreakdoun has on him (which is admittedly very limited and incomplete).  Watching them, I saw a guy who got stonewalled by Arkansas St. guards one on one, he also whiffed on the few plays he actually was in position to make, and was generally not a very dominant presence against teams he should have crushed.

So, again, I really do want to know what people are basing their love affair on.  And why does anyone think he will be ready for a major role this year?

No, they simply had legit talent at DB.

Are you really suggesting the Denver DBs are on par with our current squad?

Seriously? It's the exact same way we scored on them, and got the ball in good position.  They had the same problems on offense that we did, except....  Their defense was better.
