Carolina Panthers select DT Vernon Butler

I don't even know why I came to the huddle after the pick. "he's gonna sit the bench"  and yadda yadda yadda. I've seen most of the older huddled with the right Frame of mind. No more gassed d line,  ever. The o line will be spent and we will be imposing our will even more. This means we can throw Joe from Winn Dixie in the secondary and we'll be alright.

The Giants went with pass rushers across the entire DL on passing downs.

Denver likewise had Malik Jackson play huge.

we already had one of the best interior pass rushes in the league in case you didn't notice

people can say what they want but this guy is barely going to see the field, just like Shaq. there's only so many snaps to go around

Dont get me wrong Butler is an excellent pick but unless they plan on starting him as a DE, then hes not going to make an impact.  I would rather of had someone explosive to start opposite of an ealy and rotate with CJ.  I think the pass rush would be much better than rotating in another DT.  just my 2 cents.

Not necessarily.  This kid has an insane motor, and they value intelligence.  He might end up the #2, or 3 guy in the rotation before it's all said and done.  DTs can adjust quickly to the nfl.

7 Teams called for a trade...interesting too as I see that the Seahawks were also interested in Butler so if we traded back we probably would have missed out on him...would be crazy if we stole the Seahawks pick and they traded back because they figured they could get Butler at 31.

Also the offers may not have been enough and moves like this could help us rob teams in the future...they will know that Gettleman will just hang the phone up and pick his player if he doesn't like the offer...he'll never feel forced to trade and he will either win the trade or make no trade....I like it.

Can he block Von Miller?  Nope.  Can he cover the other team's best receiver?  Nope.  Can he consistently get open and catch the ball?  Nope.

Get out your pitchforks and torches, it looks like I didn't just ejaculate over this pick.

PS - I look forward to getting another LB tomorrow.
