5 Quarterbacks in 15 years...

This whole Beuerlein vs. Delhomme argument is silly. Statistically, BOTH of them are better than Troy Aikman.

Define what makes one QB better than another and then you can maybe present an argument. As far as I'm concerned, we win a lot more with Jake under center than we did with Beuerlein, and that's the only stat anyone really cares about.

No doubt. Some seem to think that we could plug SB into our current offense and all that's left is picking up the Lombardi. I don't see it that way. Believe it or not, the team has other issues than just QB play.

It's not just stats though. I used them to help guide along all the young, new fans we have in this thread that apparently weren't Panther fans when Beuerlein was here. Even if you strip away the stats, Steve Beuerlein always looked more comfortable throwing the football than Jake does.

I don't know about this year, but I promise you if we transported '99 Beuerlein onto last year's playoff team, we would have been SB champs.

Yeah, and he looked more like a statue too. Remember that QB sneak against Green Bay? :)

They both had their good points and bad points. If Delhomme had Beuerlein's arm, or if Beuerlein could rally the team like Delhomme, or if Delhomme had Beuerlein's receivers or played in his system, or if Beuerlein had Delhomme's mobility, etc...

W/L is worth a lot to me, so I think Jake is the better of the two. If raw stats are more your game, I don't blame you for thinking better of Beuerlein.

I can't fault Beuerlein for our win-loss record in '99 and '00. Just think about what surrounded him in the running game, the o-line, the defense, the coaching staff.

There has been some discussion about what would have happened if Prime Beuerlein had been on last year's team. Just think if Jake Delhomme had been on our team in 1999 with that craptastic team outside of the receivers. I shudder to think how that would have turned out.

I would settle for prime Delhomme last year. :)

We had a poor man's Beuerlein in 2003 in the form of Rodney Peete, and the team came out flat. Delhomme actually played a crappy game his first start, but he got the team moving. As far as Delhomme in 99, he may have done every bit as well, but neither of them plays defense. That team couldn't stop anybody, they just tried to outscore you.

When you consider things like accuracy, pocket pressence, understanding the passing game, and being able to spread the ball around I think Beurlein is a clear winner. But when you add in more intangible things like leadership, passion, fire, and connection with the receivers then Jake gets the nod (slightly). It's not about the team they played on but the individual as a quarterback.
