Voth predicts Hunter Henry

9 times out of 10, Voth has good info.  He's more "in the know" than any of our beat writers.

True, I usually assume anything he says is legit, I just want to know for certain.  And Jeremy also says the team is high on Hunter, so this is one I am in the process of wrapping my head around.  Looks like he could be a serious possibility for the pick.

Yeah, I understand.  I'm not high on a couple of the guys they've been mentioning in the first.  I don't have much of an opinion on H. Henry, because I haven't really put any time into him.  I've been hearing he's not a great blocker, but his NFL draft profile says the exact opposite.  It says he's a "stud" run blocker.  Just reading that makes you think, "damn, this kid might be a baller.

STRENGTHS

Flat-running stud as a run blocker and a big part of Arkansas' running game success. Strikes into the frame of defenders with inside hands and blocks with a wide, strong base. Able to turn outside linebackers and cornerbacks out of their run fits and sustains his blocks as long as he can. Had no drops and 51 catches this season. Able to secure contested catches and eminent hits won't scare him away from the catch. Able to work all three levels as a go-to target. Too talented to be covered by most linebackers. Able to run a variety of routes and has no reason to leave the field.

WEAKNESSES

Don't need much space for this section. Can get a little grabby as a run blocker and was penalized for three holding calls in 2015. Is a little upright into his breaks with rounded turns over sharp cuts. Is a little labored when adjusting his routes to traffic.

Sounds like he's pretty boss.  If he's anything like Olsen, on top of being a "stud" run blocker, how do you pass on him?  Like I said though, I don't know enough about him to have much of an opinion.

Hunter Henry would put our offense over the top. When defenses have to defend both Olsen and Henry instead of all focusing on Olsen, that really opens the field up. We would be damn near unstoppable. Not to mention Henry is a great blocker. I've heard many compare him to Gronk. He's my #1 guy.

I've read a few articles and heard some commentary saying he is more of a get in the way blocker than a controlling one.  But full disclosure, I haven't studied him as much as I probably should have since I really didn't think he would be the pick.  I knew the team liked him, but thought a couple of guys they liked better would be available.  Now I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't hate the pick since I do think he would add another dangerous element to our offense, and I also have full confidence in Gettleman and the coaching staff to have a plan for how to use him.  And it would be nice to have a legitimate option in case Greg does miss a few games or only plays a year or two longer.

I definitely have some research to do today.

One thing to consider: the draft is way deeper in defensive lineman than it is tight ends. Voth points out there's a huge drop-off after Henry at that position.

Thus, even if you wait until the second round to draft a defensive lineman, you're still getting a good one.

Heck, Kris Jenkins was a second rounder.

I like Hunter Henry and would be fine with the pick if that's who we ultimately pick at 30, but I feel like the value of getting a TE later is much higher. I don't think he is really that much better than the other TE options in the draft who will be available later and the drop off from 1st to 2nd/3rd round talent is much steeper at other positions.

I would much rather have 1st round DE, DT, WR, CB, OT, RB, S + Hooper/Vannett/Adams than I would Hunter Henry + 2nd round DE, DT, WR, CB, OT, RB, S.

Now I'm absolutely certain Gettleman doesn't look at things that way so I don't expect that it will be a factor at all tonight, but that's how I would look at it.

It's so hard to tell when it comes to Gettleman.  If Jeremy's "rankings" are fairly accurate, there's a very good possibility of us getting Hunter.  I, myself, didn't even consider him being more coveted than Ogbah, and Coleman/Butler could very well be gone at 30.

Think of him as Greg Olsen clone but who can run & pass block much better. He still has room in his body frame to grow with NFL training  could turn out to be a slightly smaller  version of Gronk. Also our biggest playoff enemy weakness is TE (Seattle & Arizona)

Yep.  This is where our trust in Gettleman, the scout, comes in.  I read online articles/evaluations, hear talking heads talk, and watch youtube clips to scout a player.  Gettleman uses a whole team of professional and experienced scouts, a high-level coaching staff, and his own immense scouting experience to make evaluations.  So, I have to trust him to know more than I do, and as a result, I'll be comfortable with whomever he picks, whether it's someone I was high on or not.  I'm just happy to finally have someone like him who has earned that trust running our team.
