Each team averages 8  picks.  There are 7 rounds and 32 comp picks.  It is pretty simple. That is how averages work

since its 7 rounds, id assume average # of picks per team would be 7

Well, now we have 6, 7 and 8!  We need answers!  When I wrote that, my mind thought of trading picks for some reason so I wrote 6.  I realize it's not the average, but I think I got my point across... There aren't many people who get drafted.  Thanks for being nice about it and teaching me how to math though.

P.s. I'm lying on my couch with a sore throat, all hopped up on night time flu medicine, watching its always sunny reruns and posting from my phone.  Sorry for not fact checking.

Unlikely to be drafted? Unless one team somehow stole everyone else's draft board, that statement doesn't hold water. I don't even see the need to say that in the first place.

I mean, if you were a linebacker at Eastern Upstate Mississippi State of Texas, you probably have a significantly lower chance of being drafted than lots of other players. I would say these calls focus on ST guys and back ups in college.

This does suck and I can see how it runs people wrong. There is a cleaner way of doing this without pissing people off.  Telling someone they aren't good enough is all out douchey.

I think sending a letter or having a call and generalize by saying the team has a mid to late round grade and the team has been impressed with their credentials and noticed them. Explain a bunch of crap about how draft boards work and how dynamic and fluid the process is. Thank them for participating.

lf the guy gets drafted in the 3rd then it's great.  If he goes undrafted he may be bummed but he remembers your teams interest and the personal touch. So long as it is done in a manner that does not compromise strategy then I think it works fine and mi imizes the douchification of the process.

Hey there,

We don't think you are very good. In fact, we don't think any NFL team thinks you are good at all. In fact, you are no where near being good enough a football player to be drafted into the NFL. So, sorry about your lifelong dreams.

Anywho, I hope you will consider being an undrafted free agent with the Cowboys!

Also.... know any hot coeds you can bring to camp?

Regards,

Jerry Jones

If I were hoping to be drafted, even in the middle rounds, but did not know for sure (nobody does) I would feel optimistic--as if I had security for a while.  Imagine not getting drafted without the knowledge of a team interested in you.

I know this first-hand because I went undrafted.  So did you.  Remember the emptiness?  The feeling of abandonment all void of hope?  I do.  It stings.

If you look at some of the players we talk to at all-star games and what not, many are the fringe players.

Remember Gettlemen said, "You build a roster from the bottom up."

Look at his success in undrafted free agency.

Niorwell, Brown, Marlowe, Wegher, etc.

Yea that would suck to hear that no doubt...interesting too that IMO and at least for me personally that would instantly make me look elsewhere...doubt I'd sign with the mofos calling me talkin bout you won't be drafted son but we sure would love to sign you for rookie min.

How about

"You're a tremendous player and we believe you would be a great fit in our system. We wish you the best, but in the rare event you aren't drafted, please consider our team."

Boom. Problem solved.

This... It is called tact. I highly doubt if it went any other way, in which some of you are alluding to, that this involves the Panthers. We are a classy organization that would more likely offer up the lines above rather than flat out telling people that they weren't going to be drafted but we wanted them to sign with us.
