Interesting "Consensus" Big Board

Every year, I’ve managed to collect over 40 draft boards and combine them not only to create a cheat sheet for people to follow along in the draft, but to get a better sense of what the draft looks like and why certain players may fall.

Last year, we were able to identify highly-touted players that could contribute as UDFAs, like Justin Coleman, as well as the fact that Stefon Diggs’ overall rankings didn’t mean much: some were very high on him. The fact that athletic and highly-rated tackle Jake Fisher fell all the way to pick 53 was predictable by this method, as the forecaster board had him ranked 52 overall.

And we saw that Sean Mannion, despite not being good at football, would be highly coveted by teams—enough to earn a Day 2 pick.

Gman will trade up for Ramsey.

I'm not even sure I can comprehend the amount of picks we would have to give up to be able to draft Ramsey.

2016 1st, 2017 1st and 2018 1st is your starting point. Now throw in some 2nds and 3rds and you're probably close.

I'm interested in Paxton Lynch being in our neighborhood presenting itself for a trade.

Doubtful that happens. It seems like the late teens-early 20s are his floor right now with his ceiling being the 7th pick. All sorts of rumors of teams being willing to trade up to get him. If he got past the Jets at 20 and that seems like a really big if then the Cards, Browns and Broncos seem willing to move up into the 20s to get him. Cards rumors are somewhat speculative, but there are rumors they want to move up and there are known to be interested in acquiring a QB of the future for when Carson hangs it up. So that one is more putting 2 and 2 together. Some of it could be smoke but there are so many of them that at least one of them is bound to be true.

It wouldn't take 3 1sts. Would still be stupid though.

Matt miller thinks we can go WR

Carolina Panthers: The Panthers have been linked to pass-rushers throughout the draft process, but sources in the scouting room expect a defensive back to get the most attention in Round 1. I'm told by coaching staff sources in Carolina that the team has done heavy work on Ohio State wide receiver Michael Thomas; he may be a surprise Round 1 pick.

Eh... I hope not.  I mean, I'm not the draft guru, but I'm not fond of this one.  I'd be 5x happier getting Shepard in the 2nd, than Thomas in the 1st.

Hadn't seen this.  Nice resource.  I like how they include the variance and also the position ranking.  I'll definitely add position ranking if/when I do more draft analysis next year.  That's a very helpful metric to include.

So.... looking at that position ranking info, wow, it really reinforces how top-heavy this draft is on defense.

18 DTs / Interior defenders in top 100

12 DEs / Edge defenders in top 100

8 CBs

9 safeties

47% of the top 100 at these 4 positions alone... not even counting LBs....

By contrast:

3 centers

4 guards

6 QBs

7 RBs

3 TEs

11 WRs

That's 34 players at 6 positions....
