For like the third time,  a Huddle meltdown is almost expected after the fact.  My OP speaks to the pre-draft drama.

our first round pick is exceptionally late (for our norm)...as mentioned earlier I think the lateness of the first pick kills a lot of predraft drama (not Gettlemen).

If we had a top 5 pick and could get a real grasp on realistically who will be available the board would be a buzz IMO.

Right now, there is just too much unknown about where to start a draft discussion b/c who is at play is just too uncertain.....so that basically only leaves intelligent people to merely state the obvious which is drafting Henry would set us back 75 years.  75 freaking years!!!!

On the contrary I think picking late does nothing to dull people's pre draft drama but only heighten's it on the day of the draft as people slowly watch other teams make their picks and pray the player they want falls to them. So when that eventual player who is on the board and doesn't get picked only rases the disdain for the manager for not picking him after waiting so long. But it could work both ways with this logic....

well, then I can speak for myself...

I always talk first round pick pretty hardcore...but I am not this year b/c of the late pick, not Gettlemen.  I'm still hype about the draft but I know realistically unlike other seasons I have no clue who will be there that late.  So I will wait until draft time and about pick 15 before I start really wanting/hating picks.  Normally we pick close enough I can love/hate the first rounder before the draft.

Based on the handful of draft threads I've perused so far this offseason, I imagine if Gettleman were to pick Derrick Henry, half this board would have a conniption.  Personally, I think he's more worthy of a 2nd round pick, but if Gettleman thinks he's good enough to pick in the 1st, I'd be happy with it.

I am likely in the same boat.  He wouldnt be my pick but then again what do I know.  I thought we should pic Funchess instead of Shaq last year.  I got my wish when we moved up to get Funchess anyway. And again Gettleman knows what the coaches are planning and is drafting accordingly.  As a fan I have no insider info and dont have a clue about the overall strategy and how all the pieces fit together.  So I will sit back and see what happens. I have a few days to make my picks on what I think we will do so they can resurrect them next year to make me look stupid.  Something to look forward to.....

my issue with my guess/pick is having to try to figure out all the other teams beforehand....

in a perfect world, I think Dave would like a DE he has graded high to be there.....and that becomes a fairly easy decision for him. I think if he has an X grade on a cluster of players when we pick , he goes DE.  If the cluster of guys we pick at doesn't feature a DE with a high enough grade it gets more complex.

"But I dare say that the Huddle has succumbed to the calming effect of Gettlemagic, much like a snake charmer subdues a Cobra."

Probably the case for most homers.  DG has proven to have a good nose for college talent.  That was his job for the Giants which ultimately led to his GM position with the Panthers.  Star was a no-brainer but Short and Bene were gems.  Feel good that we get some quality players this week.

As for being the GM and putting together the right formula to win a championship ... jury is still out.  Hurney got us to a Superbowl too but even the homers hate him now.
