Ogbah is boom-or-bust according to Stephen White, retired NFL DE

Very good read. I want to fall in love with him but just can't. His Oklahoma game was some of the worst tape I've seen, the effort just wasn't there. It scares me because you can coach talent, but not effort.....just can't figure out what to make of him, but I'll trust our coaches and front office

Its a large portion of his Central Michigan game that puts me off. He bull rushes like every play and OL get into his body easily. As a poster on the first page alluded to, he could do it with his hands tied behind his back and the result wouldn't look much different. There's just no arm usage.

Been trying to tell yall lol . Watch film hes way to raw , not saying he wont be a star in the nfl but it will take a while . Imo we need someone to be good now at de and thats dodd.

Dodd is barely better right now, is a very limited athlete and is going to be 24 next year which stunts his developmental ceiling. There's really not a scenario where Dodd is a better pick than Ogbah is.

Ithe took TD years to become what he is now. If it takes him a year or two to become great then so be it. That's what coaches are paid to do.

Dude, Dodd is going to have to get better as well. There is still a lot of rawness to his game. He needs to use better technique, while also adding more to his pass rushing arsenal.

Here are some things Stephen White has to say about Dodd:

Quote

See the wiper move wasn't just Dodd's best move, it was damn near the only pass rush he ever tried to use. And I'm talking about play after play after play, just nothing but wiper moves. It's great that he has gotten so good at it, but all too often I saw him get a little too far up field waiting either on the tackle to throw his punch or to get close enough to do the move, and the results were near-sacks that Dodd missed by just a hair.

This is probably going to sound crazy, but I actually see some Jared Allen in Dodd. Allen was a guy that liked to do a lot of different variations of power rushes. He might give you a full-fledged bull rush or maybe a long arm instead to stay on the edge of a guy. But when he wanted to try to turn the corner with speed, Allen also had that wiper move that he could go to on cue. His power rushes had tackles sitting down and punching so hard that when he slipped that wiper move in, the tackle's feet would usually be stuck in the ground like quick sand.

If Dodd can diversify his pass rush repertoire and find a move that really complements his wiper move, whether it be a power rush or a better inside move than I saw from him on tape, he could be a handful to deal with as a pass rusher in the NFL.

If he commits to improving and expanding his technique, Kevin Dodd is going to be a monster in the NFL in a few years.

Dodd is a late bloomer who needs to be given time if you take him. He is a one-year-wonder in college. He is probably not the quick fix that you believe that he is, though he obviously has some upside.

I think it is fair to criticize Ogbah for his inconsistent effort and sometimes poor technique. Should that stop us from drafting him? Only if you need a plug and play guy which might be one of the Clemson DEs. But what is intriguing about Ogbah is the same thing that was intriguing about Benjamin. Great size, speed and athleticism who is raw and lacks polish.  I think our coaches will do a great job coaching him up as long as he wants it badly which hopefully we found out about his character in the visit.

This isn't a dank huddle meme, but there's about 55, yes 55 players that could go in the first. Ogbah is in the group, closer to the end than the front. Hes in the 20s on my list. Anytime you have a man thats very coachable AND hard working.... I can support him.

Tier are like this

1-4

5-13

14-20

20-55

Ogbah is in the last group.

Yep, there's no such thing as a sure thing prospect.  That's why there's busts and steals every year.  Always have been, always will be.  A ton of guys come into the NFL raw.  You just have to figure out who is coachable and willing to work and who isn't.  I'd much rather draft a guy with high potential who is raw but coachable than a guy who is polished but who is athletically limited.

More and more players are coming into the league short on fundamentals. Because of the practice limitations in college, coaches don't have enough time to spend on fundamentals. So nowadays, you have to get to know the kids. You have to find out if they have the ethics it will take to grow and be productive.  Which is why meetings are becoming more and more important. It is your first and only real opportunity to feel the guy out. So to speak.  So yeah, if we spend one of our limited visits on a guy. He is of interest to us.

The best coaches in the league, which we are thankfully near the top with those, cannot teach "Lazy Players". But if you have the drive, we can coach you up.
