This is genius rigging by the NFL. The only reason why the punishment is so harsh is because the Patriots are so hated. And that's why its so smart. Most of the NFL's fan base is happy because they are seeing (let's be honest) disproportionate punishment against a team they hate. BUT in the event that the Patriots succeed, it makes a more compelling narrative where they can flip the script and make the Patriots underdogs/victims.

As satisfying as all this is, it really is just a farce and further proof that the NFL is a joke.

The punishment of 4 games and a loss of draft pick is so harsh because the patriots have been caught cheating multiple times....and Goddell let them off easy with a warning to stop the crap.  They thumbed their noses at him and kept on pulling this kind of crap.  So, he dropped the hammer on them this time.
