Wow: Norman tried firing his agent and signing the tender, but Gettleman had already rescinded

I feel a bit differently hearing this.  Sounds like we had a chance to possibly keep him and Gettleman acted bullheaded.

Assuming this is true.

Nothing would have stopped us from still pulling the tag and signing him to a 1 year $13.95m guaranteed contract with the exact same terms. Tag was irrelevant. Gettleman decided to move on as simple as that.

At some point, the players in Carolina could legitimately start taking issue with the GM.  Front office tension could come into play eventually.

Gross, 89, maybe here...it is debatable how well he has handled some pretty big time players.  Players take note of how a front office treats "them".

I would agree with you if not for the ruthless hooded one. Pats are more ruthless than any organization when it comes to roster building and yet they are able to get enough to compete year in year out. Truth is players are not monolithic in thinking and you will continue to have a pool of free agents with different motivations.

Really think Norman's agent fugged him on this somehow.  Gettleman said he was professional, but I get the feeling something went down between the agent and Gettleman.

I also get the feeling that Ron Rivera was indeed in the dark, because at the press conference he kept saying "I am going to trust Gettleman in this (paraphrased).  Seemed like he wasnt exactly privy to or excited about losing Norman.

In the end we really did Norman right, because he got a great contract that he would never get here, and I think we should get a draft pick so we actually do get something for him this way.

RR is said to love the movie "Miracle".  Herb Brooks said the more they hated him the less time they had to hate each other. GMan is absolutely perfect.

Itll be interesting to see if this is one of DGs first mistakes.

First mistakes? Where have you been for the past 3 off-seasons.

The players and their agents do not have a very high opinion of Gettleman - especially the veterans. Gettleman gets used by any player of value to the league. Young players he drafted will require top dollar from him when their contract is up. It is getting to a point where Gettleman is the teams biggest distraction internally. That is irony.

Gettleman runs the Panthers based on a foundation of loyalty to the team. However, he delivers no loyalty to any of the players on the team or the player in negotiations when it comes time to build the team in the off-season.

Some may want to pretend like this formula will not come crashing down, but we all know the outcome of this system of management. Once he has used up his surplus left to him from his predecessor, there will be nothing of substance to hold on to for the future. It will be a system of interchangeable used parts and player development/projects that will be leaving for better pay when their business deal is up.

Josh knew what was going on. They were given permission to shop a trade before any of this happened.  Josh is lying to save face. The dude is a nut job and if you couldn't see that before now you really weren't paying attention.

Psh, those people worried this will hurt our abilities to sign other guys must worry about the Patriots on a yearly basis too.

You play hardball when you have to in order to keep a good team together. No one player is above the betterment of the team

people used to complain in the hurney/fox years that nobody wanted to play for a loser organization like the panthers who were perennially 8-8

now that we're kicking ass nobody is going to want to sign up because our GM didn't help an agent zip his pants up without getting his ******* caught
