Wow: Norman tried firing his agent and signing the tender, but Gettleman had already rescinded

If true this literally changes nothing. The explanation Dave gave was that the 1 year rental became less and less appealing. He never once said it was because the tender was not signed. If you take him at his word and he really found a one year deal to not be in the teams best interest then even if it wasn't too late to change the paperwork why would he?

it isn't our GM's job to hold an agent's hand nor should he have to send him emails reminding him to talk with his client about how negotiations are going

This. Norman could have checked in with his agent and asked what's up, maybe sit in on negation a, phone calls etc. If he wanted to stay he should have took more iniative to sign the tender. I wanted Norman to stay here bad and I really like Norman. Sounds like both parties are at fault here. Not good. This is Elvis dumerville bad. Surely Gettleman could have threatened the agent or at least called Josh and say we are taking away the tag unless you sign now....something. Damn this isn't good for both parties.

Players should be required to be present at all negotiations.  I hate that agents are a necessary evil but I understand why.  I'm sure players not being present is standard practice, to separate the personal from the business, but agents are by design shady ass individuals.  Cut from the same cloth as lawyers.

At some point, the players in Carolina could legitimately start taking issue with the GM.  Front office tension could come into play eventually.

Gross, 89, maybe here...it is debatable how well he has handled some pretty big time players.  Players take note of how a front office treats "them".

Cam and luke?

olsen, cam, and kuechly were all uneventfully extended and charles johnson and brandon boykin turned down more money to play for the panthers.  it depends on who you listen to.

hell i think deangelo williams was essentially going "gettleman is alright, richardson is a dick" while steve smith was going "i love jerry richardson, fug gettleman"

I was full on board with original idea of only keeping norman for this year only. Let Norman cash in after this year, then he's 30.

If not san fan had plenty of draft picks and 52 million in space. I do also understand Dave not wanting to pay him more than Luke and paying KK,star,Turner, norwell, etc etc.

To me this is Dave's second mistake, first being the handling of Smitty(not the release) and now dropping the tag. The wasted 4th on kugzilla is not a mistake compared to the Smitty & Josh tag.

If true, this is my worry as well. Everything is good right now, but this isn't a good look to me if true.
