Wow: Norman tried firing his agent and signing the tender, but Gettleman had already rescinded

No hate for Josh, but he played hard to get and eventually Gettleman decided he'd just find another prom date. Story is over, except for some hurt feelings on both sides. I'm sure Josh would have stayed if the money had been there, I'm sure DG would have kept him if the money had been right. What's done is done and both will go on.

The rest is just soap opera.

Getting rid of a incompetent GM, that doesn't mean the GM we have now is the greatest thing since slice bread.

Well, at least for last year, he was the greatest thing since bread.  And arguable better than slicing said bread.

For putting together a tightly knit team that went 17-2, Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman is Sporting News' NFL Executive of the Year. He joins SN Coach of the Year Ron Rivera in making it a Panthers clean sweep of honors voted on by their peers, other executives and coaches around the league.

Please to be noting that final underlined phrase.

I'm not trying to claim that I have an in about this whole situation, but I just asked my buddy about the whole thing. He gets his hair cut at the same place as Norman does and they ended up becoming friends and text every so often. He told me that after the pen was slapped from his hands, Gettleman whipped his dick out and smacked him across the face with it while saying "bup bup bup" with a menacing grin.

Completely savage.

you wake up in the middle of the night to a dark, rotund figure at the foot of your bed.  a sliver of silver light reflects off grandma eyeglass frames

the entity stands there in menacing silence, emitting only a quiet "bup bup bup"

Know why I can believe this?

Because Nippleshorts is just that badass.  Truth-o-meter reading?  TRUER THAN TRUE.

This might be the fastest 180 on a player I've seen on this board.

Hate hate hate hate.

No hate here.

Happy for him and wish him luck.

But I do believe throwing his former coaches under the bus and backing up and running over them repeatedly is a pretty darned low-class way to leave.

I think a reasonable individual can admit that maybe both parties here could have perhaps done a few things differently, but in the end, it just wasn't meant to be. We were not going to be able to pay him the long term deal he wanted, that much is painfully obvious.

You can say this without attempting to gargle Gettleman's balls at the same time. He isn't completely infallible. Nor is anyone else for that matter. Such is life.

Agreed.

You can also do it without setting up strawmen and destroying them.

I was starting to think that nobody else saw what was going on there.  I love Norman, and am happy for him, but I thought it was shitty to be faulting Gettleman, for something that was clearly his side's fault.  I said in another thread, that players are quick to say, "I don't do contract talks, that's my agents job."  All of a sudden it's Gettleman's fault for not letting Norman know poo was going bad?  Nope.  That's your agent's fault for not communicating it to you, and your fault for not asking how things are going.  Be happy you got what you felt you were worth, and leave it at that.  Quit being a victim, in a situation you clearly came out on top of.

What I was specifically referring to was Norman at his press conference thanking the Washington coaches for not "wrapping him in bubble wrap" which is a clear shot at his former coaches who, of course, calmed him down and made him into the player that just got a contract worth $75 million.

Good luck to the Washington coaches and their bubble-wrap removal process and the 15-yard penalties on their team that will result.

Also, in support of your statement above:

He blamed Panthers GM Dave Gettleman for not clarifying that the Panthers would not raise their offer (reportedly four years, $44 million) and allowing for easier negotiations:

"If I would have known, we could have come to some kind of agreement to where, all right, if this is the case, let me get this out of the way and we can work on something different. I didn't know all that went down like it did. If would have known that, of course I would have liked to have stayed there. Why would I want to leave there?"

...

"I asked [Gettleman] what was up. Shoot, I dedicated all my life there, put in blood and tears. ... He was like, 'Yeah, man. I'm sorry. Your agent is a reflection of you.'"

Horse poo, Josh.

Complete and utter horse poo.

Its exactly what Gettleman said, YOUR AGENT IS A REFLECTION OF YOU.  If you didn't want your agent to do the things he did, you should have been paying attention.  So either (1) you were paying attention and your agent WAS doing what you told him to do or (2) you're a fugging moron by not being a part of the process between your hired legal representation and the team.

Neither option reflects well on Josh Norman.

Who picks the scouts?

Who is the coach's boss?

It  actually is the president of panther Danny Morrison since he  hired  Dave and is in charge of Panthers football operation  oh wait no it's Jerry Richardson who hired Morrison and founded the team oh no wait it's God who gave  life to Jerry Richardson .  It's the same scenario as did the chicken came first or the egg.

Its called a job,Dave hires and draft  x&y  so the x & y can do their job not Dave doing their job.

System: a set of connected things or parts forming a complex whole, in particular. Aka football organization.

ALL GLORY should be to Jerry Richardson for hiring Dave Gettleman and His mother for giving life to Jerry Richardson so he can hire Dave Gettleman. Its called a fuging job.

So yesterday it was Cam/Luke/Ron = 70%, Dave = 30%, in regards to the team's success.  Today, it's a "System: a set of connected things or parts forming a complex whole, in particular. Aka football organization."  What will tomorrow bring?
