Wow: Norman tried firing his agent and signing the tender, but Gettleman had already rescinded

And come on. You know that every time they say it's not about the money, it's about the money.

Its ALWAYS about the money.

You don't play a game that could possibly maim your joints and your brain for life merely for "love of the game" (though that may surely be part of it).  You play it at the professional level to GET PAID.

That was a Seattle fan talking point last year. Glad we're adopting those now.

Say what you want, but it was true.

Now, Norman was a very good CB and his departure definitely makes our secondary weaker.  But, he was NOT the unstoppable force that many make him out to be on here.

OBJ torched him the first play of the game and just dropped the ball...not to mention that he still put up yardage and a TD on him.

Julio DID give him trouble in the last game against Atlanta.

His int's were all in the first few games of the year.

He did drop 2 potential int's in the SB that could have made a big difference.

Again, his departure IS a loss....just not the devastating catastrophe that some of you think.

Exactly....if it wasn't about the money then he would have signed here for 4yrs 44M instead of with Washington for 5 yrs and 75M.

I do NOT blame him for taking the bigger payday....but, that decision WAS about the money.

Hardy showed irresponsibility before the tag...

We just went to the Super Bowl...and Cam is still young enough where he can go cheat code/god mode.  Not going for a Super Bowl? Cam's in a weird window of his career where he can do more than he will later....we need to quit giving him the shaft and forcing near perfect play.  He needs talent around him for error.

Well we just let our best DB go, so that's less talent right there. Cam best friend is a running game and defense. Honestly I'm not impressed with the DE's that will be available at 30 and even then you're talking about a position that for the most part takes 3 years to really start dominating. So switch to the offensive side of the ball, our tackles got dominated in the SB, and if they played just above average we might have won. I checked 2017 FA's for Tackles and you're looking at good talent. J.Stew will be 30 and cap hit will be much lower after this season, so Henry might be available. I still like the idea of Henry/Shepard and go after tackle/DE next offseason. Get Harlan in the 3rd hopefully

Good example.  But, i got caught in the details...  my point was, if he wanted to make it happen, he would have.  And he didn't, so he rescinded then offer and tactfully told him to kick rocks.

As i discussed with Scot in the other thread, the other important point I'm trying to make is that contrary to popular belief, Gettleman is not devoid emotions in his position, and he has even admitted as much.

We don't know the ins and outs of what happened here, and we likely never will.  But, as i said, this situation and the one with Smitty illustrate to me a few times out of many, where Gettleman did let his emotions play into the decisions being made.  That's all I'm saying.

The arguments to be had here between posters though are based off whether people actually valued Josh or not...  if they didn't - "Gettleman for earth king and president.  Give him your finest linens and hand over your wives for him to impreganate with the next GM of all-time!"  Of they do value Josh, "F*ck Gettleman!  He's a heartless prick!  His soullessness is only rivaled by Hitler himself!"  When neither is what is really being said or felt, but people draw their lines and piss.

Honestly I trust Gettleman but by no means believe he is infallible. I just try not to have a knee jerk reaction to these things. I wouldn't be surprised if one of our key players gets a new contract extension before the season starts now, which would make crying over Norman at this juncture seem pretty silly IMO.

The Panthers were a mediocre franchise before Gettleman got here, never having gone to the playoffs in back to back years. Now we are soon to be back to back to back to back NFC South Champs.

Thats why I try and let things play out before shouting from the rooftops with one opinion or the other. Because the Internet is forever and I don't want to go back and see that I was crying over Norman if he ends up having just a mediocre year in Washington and KK gets an extension and goes off on everyone.

And as you have noticed montsta, i do enjoy screaming from rooftops, lol.  Life is more fun...  or manic that way, lol.

It might be true that josh fired his agent and called the panthers after they rescended the franshise tag; but i call bs that josh had no idea how far apart they were on a long term deal.  If you were talking to your agent on a daily basis you had to have known. Not to mention you could have spoken to the gm directly yourself or sit in on a phone call between the agent and our gm. No excuse for the franchise tag not to be signed, period.

Gettleman is a very very good GM especially with Cap management and Drafting players but He did not single handedly turn this team around. This process started when  Ron & Cam came in & accelerated with draft of Luke following year.

70% of success came from Ron, Cam, & Luke

30% is Dave

You have to be joking... right?  I mean, obviously he didn't do it all by himself, but to say Ron, Cam, and Luke are 70% of the reason?  C'mon man!
