Wow: Norman tried firing his agent and signing the tender, but Gettleman had already rescinded

I'm still not seeing how the agent is solely at fault here, we haven't even made it to training camp and the tag got rescind. I think this is truly just a case of being too impatient or over hasty. EVEN if conversation wasn't going anywhere , you lay down the law by letting josh/agent know whatever our max offer is our final offer , you can seek a trade or play for 14mil for one year and we can either let you test free agency at the time or start new contract offers. IF, which i doubt, josh decide to holdout or not show for camp that's when you take this course of action. Only distraction this situation would cause is maybe for DG himself since the draft is coming up, wayyyyyyy to early to say his contract talks had any negative effect on the overall team.As it stands at the moment, this situation was handled poorly by both sides

Gotta take Dave at his word that the two sides were simply way too far apart to have any hope of finding middle ground and the Panthers not being interested in a one year rental.

I would've liked to have seen Josh st least play out the season under the tag, but if we can get Short locked up long term and possibly some other guys as well (maybe Turner and/or Norwell) then that probably is the better bet long-term for the Panthers.

The move definitely hurts our chances of returning to the SB again this season, but it's obvious Dave thinks long-term.

My personal experience with bad contract negotiations, and I only have had to do this twice so its not like I'm an expert, is you realize at some point you just have to move on. I found myself making other plans the further south things went, so by the time it hit the skids, I already had one foot out the door. Sometimes you just get tired of the BS and just have to walk away.

Just as I suspected and discussed in my thread defending Josh that night...

This just pisses me off all over again.  Most of the blame goes on that dumbass agent, but this report pretty much proves I was correct in paralleling it with the Smitty "saga."  Like I said in the other thread, Gettleman has earned my respect with his scouting and drafting abilities, but he is too quick to want to show what a hard ass he is and it has cost us twice now.  I really wish he would quit acting like a fuging baby and stop taking umbrage at every fuging thing outside of someone kissing his ass and give things like this their room.

I'd say it's unbelievable, but it's not considering he's done it twice here now.  And are people still going to defend his actions as not taking things "personal" now?  But, Gettlemagic circlejerk, amirite?

Changes nothing! Gettleman said at the presser that he wasn't interested in a one year rental, and that he used the tag in the first place to give them more time to negotiate a long term deal. He rescinded the tag because the hope of getting a long term deal got diminished. If the story is true, Josh only offered to do just what Gettleman wanted to avoid, to pay 14 million for a one year rental. Josh did not lower his number for a long term deal. If that had been the case, Gettleman would have restarted negotiations for a long term deal with a new agent. But Josh was at that point a free agent (since the papers already was sent in), and when Josh then got the Redskings offer, he would not come back to Gettleman and take a 11 million per year deal, when he got 15 in Washington.

He was done wrong by his agent.

I don't agree. He hired his agent, knew what the agent was doing, and bought into it. It's Josh's responsibility to understand his situation.

Both releasing Steve and rescinding Josh's tag were the right (and necessary) decisions for the continued success of the Carolina Panthers. Dave Gettleman doesn't make moves "to show what a hard ass he is" or act like a "fuging baby." I'd say it's "unbelievable" for one to think that, but it's not considering you've posted stupid stuff here many times now.

Anyone who thinks Gettleman is level headed is pretty much lying to themselves at this point. They are trying to convince themselves Gettleman is some sort of god and can do no wrong.

I dislike Micheal Wilbon but he hit the nail on the head this time, these GM in the NFL are walking around like if they can do no wrong, there way is the only way. You could tell by the Rivera presser he was caught off guard and didn't like the move one bit.

This is some story to save face for Josh. But really there is no reason.  He wanted big money and he got it.  Wish him the best. Wanted him here. But for this story to come out saying "well I wanted to be a Panther but now they won't let me.." Whatever sir! You've had over a month to sign that tender.  Don't blame your agent for your actions. Could have made it happen if you wanted or even resigned after it was pulled.  For those bashing Gettleman in this thread are just butt hurt. Y'all in other threads praising him.  He has earned our trust and respect from his moves since being here. Happened with Smitty, DeAngelo, etc.. It's gonna work out!  We have the major core of our team back that went to the Super Bowl, we have $32 million in CAP space, and the analyst have stated we are one of the best drafting Teams in the league.  Don't panic just yet.

Ever seen a contract negociation with the Franchise Tag before?  players usually dont sign till training camp so they dont have to show up to OTA's. very common for players to wait till the last minute to sign the tag,  JPP with the giants was doing the same thing before he blew his hand up tho.

Of course. It`s just riddicules that he is kind of whining or at least wondering about it, as pulling the tag is a possibility. LMAO that he never considered that option, even though it is a rare one. What a clown, hires an unexperienced agent and wonders about the outcome.

Sounds like Gettleman didn't think Norman was worth $14 million with no hope of signing a long term deal.  I'm assuming there was no interest in trading and Gettleman sought to maximize our compensatory pick.

Well, you might want to check through your own posting history before making that statement.

Regardless of your jabs, the truth is, you can't definitively say it was the right move.  Come back and talk to me after one of our midget corners gets thrashed by Julio twice this year that it was the right move.

And you can try to spin it how you want, but Gettleman, for someone that appeared to have a good working relationship with Josh and publicly supported him, yanked the rug out from underneath him without any warning, simply because he felt insulted by the numbers and/or lack of progress.  He didn't call Josh himself beforehand, he just did it.  Which is the same thing he did with Smitty.

You're clearly blind to that, so it really doesn't matter what you or I say at this point, you aren't going to acknowledge facts.
