Wow: Norman tried firing his agent and signing the tender, but Gettleman had already rescinded

First mistakes? He's done some great things while he's been here, and he's also done some completely moronic things. That 3-8-1 start to 2014 was directly his fault. Gettleman thought Byron Bell and Nate Chandler was an acceptable tackle tandem, Gettleman signed Decoud and Cason, Gettleman cut Steve Smith and forced us to rely heavily on an unpolished rookie. The Hardy situation played a big part too, but other than drafting KB and Turner, Gettleman's 2014 offseason was an absolute blunder.

I love that Gettleman has gotten us out of a terrible cap situation and drafted well and built a good mix of talented youth and savvy veterans, but the idea that people on here think he's the primary reason that we made a Super Bowl this year is laughable. You look at our 8 best players from last year, which in my opinion would be Cam, Stew, Olsen, Kalil, Short, Luke, TD and Norman, all of them but Short were already here before Gettleman. We also already had a coach that's put together dominant defenses everywhere he's been with different systems and different levels of talent in different positions. Combine that with the most dangerous dual-threat QB to ever play the game and it's not hard to see why we've been good for the last 3 years.

Again, I love the guy and we're lucky to have him, but it blows my mind how people really think every move he's made has been a homerun and overvalue how much he's really been responsible for our success

You wanna explain why we had losing seasons and nowhere near the success we have now even though all those players but Short were already here under Hurney?

The notion that the players we already had are the big reason why we're suddenly winning is one of the most dumbass ideas that gets thrown around on this board.

Even lousy teams can point to half a dozen or so great players. But a roster is made up of 53 players, not 6 or 7. If you think having a few players is good enough to be Super Bowl quality, you haven't got a clue.

did any of you watch the pre-draft presser?

Rivera's response to several questions about the situation was:

"I trust Dave's decision"

he said it several times and every time, it seemed like he was pissed and touting the company line

he had his arms crossed for most of the press conference when josh was being discussed

to me, it seemed like he was not happy with the tag being rescinded

just my .02, flame away
