I have a feeling about Ogbah after the Observer's article

Don't be surprised if we draft Johnny McHappyslap, some guy we didn't expect. Classic Gettleman.

One thing about Gettleman, sure we can expect the unexpected (and the impending Huddle screams, growls, groans and gnashing of teeth), but the pick is coming from one of the guys that we have visited with in one form or another.

The sane among us will not be surprised.

You don't get a DE with his measurable at the bottom of the 1st unless he's raw.  I don't care if a kid is raw as long as he's coachable.  KB was raw.

Oh I don't disagree with you. Ogbah is on my shortlist of guys I want in the first. I didn't mean that to read another way.

Dodd is not only raw but, I believe, also less talented than Ogbah. I've heard one person describe him as "the other guy" at Clemson. He was next to some dominant players which made his job easier. Yes, he'd be in a similar situation here, but that won't translate as well in the pros. I think Dodd is a much bigger project than Ogbah, and like I said before, less talented in general.

I think some people hear raw and think "has no idea what he's doing."  But that's not always the case, and it certainly isn't here.  Ogbah is raw, but only in the sense that he needs to learn a few more pass rush moves/counters and tighten up his technique.  He already has a great foundation, as well as the work ethic/willingness to learn to eventually be considered a steal at the end of the 1st.  Our coaching staff will have him up to snuff by the time the season starts, and having a year rotating in behind CJ will do wonders getting him ready to be the starter next year.

I would argue that Ogbah had a markedly better college career than Dodd, and simply has higher upside.

I'd much prefer Ogbah to Dodd.  Dodd had such a great season but ultimately he is a 24 year old 20th percentile athlete at his position. He can certainly be successful in the league, but he will need to be an expert technician with his hands to consistently win.  I'd prefer Ogbah's athletic upside - but if there is one thing Gettleman knows, it's evaluating D line.  This draft will be interesting.

This isn't a Norman thread, but what I believe he is saying that adding Ogbah will make the defensive backfield better by his addition on the line, even without Norman---the sum total of our defense in the 2016 season will be greater than our defense last season.

But, basically, Norman has nothing to do with this thread. All you have to know---anyone has to know---is that Ogbah will make this defense better going forward.

I got the same impression but Zeirlein at NFL.com also said he spoke to a few league guys who apparently have Ogbah pegged as a 2nd or 3rd round guy. Something to note.

I don't really disagree that he may be more of a second rounder, but I'm also not sure there are 30 first round talents this year. I'd be shocked if he makes it to the 3rd, or even past 50.
