He's talking about this year.

This exactly. Does Gettleman take a flyer on a one year "prove it" or "rental" type of deal? Yea that's a lot of money to use on players next year but what if someone could make a difference for a year? He's done it before with Ginn, Cason, Mike Mitchell, and more.

I'm worried some of these younger players up for contract saw Norman get paid after gettlemen lowballed him.

So what? All this showed is that Gettleman will offer players amounts equal to positional and performance value to the team, and if it isn't enough for players then they will be free to get it elsewhere. Business is business.

If you're concerned about this, then you have to believe thag CJ taking less will have a positive impact as well.

It means if you are a big guy and or a pass rusher this is the place to be. It also means if you are a veteran DB or receiver you can have a role on a team that is going to be a competitor.

Nah.  He made Luke the highest paid MLB in the game, and Cam's contract was very competitive with the top guys.  He's going to pay the players that he feels are most important.  OL, DL, LB'ers, and QB.

One player on a one-year "prove it" this year is Brandon Boykin.

He might just prove a valuable piece that Gettleman can re-sign after this year for non-crazy money.
