Gettleman's impressive draft history

Otah and Everette Brown want a word with you....

And you can say that Brown wasn't a 1st rounder....but we gave up a 1st to get him.

That pick could have been Iupati, Dez, or Demaryius Thomas.......

Otah was a hit on talent.   He was basically a Pro Bowl caliber RT when on the field from day one.  Injury got Otah.  Also can't blame him for not being "tough" and ruining his life in an effort to make random fans happy.

Brown was a 2nd rounder.

This! People give him way way way too much credit.  They just use he got Luke and Cam.  The rest of these picks were duds for the most part.  He did get Norman but every blind squirrel first day a nut sometimes.

The Cam and Luke argument is dumb for him too.  We got Cam after we ended up with the #1 overall pick. We had the top pick due to poor contract negotiations and poor drafting the previous years.  Which led up to that disaster which ended up leading to a house cleaning.  Anyone could hit a boom with the top pick that year so giving him credit for is recdiculous.

Other top 11 picks from that draft included.

Von Miller

Marcell Dareus

AJ Green

Patrick Peterson

Julio Jones

Aldon Smith

Tyrone Smith

JJ watt

And at 14 Robert Quinn.

The following year in 2012.  We had one of the worst defenses in the whole league while the offense was solid.

We didn't need a QB or RB with Cam and us having majority of our Cap tied up with double trouble. So we weren't drafting Luck, Rg3, Tannehill, or Richardson.  He happened to grab one of the top defensive players in that draft which any GM would have done.  The players sitting get there were Luke, Stephen Gillmore, Poe, and Fletcher Cox.  Bruce Irving was also picked at 15.  So there were plenty of solid defensive players sitting get there.  Had we not got Luke.   We still could have got a probowl defensive player sitting get there.

oh you don't have to imagine that.  you can legitimately venture out into the twittersphere and find people who really believe it.

they look at football like pro wrasslin; more interested in the "personalities" that they've grown to love like smitty and jake delhomme than seeing a winning product.  like they want their sleepy little 8-8 lunch pail panthers back so bad and can't stand "classless" cam newton.

i'm not saying that describes anybody in this topic, but it's certainly something i've seen out there.

Haha. gotcha...but I will stick with imagining it as I don't nor do I plan to ever have a twitter account.

I still caution people about the law of averages...

Also, you likely are getting to far ahead on some of those hits.  Was Keary Colbert a hit or miss? Need more time to see what some of those dudes listed really are

G-man drafts great talent and then makes sure they get on the field. I would argue that had not been the case at BofA in recent memory.

You can't dismiss the first rounders that were traded away from the equation. Nor can you dismiss guys we ended up with as a result of those trades, like Everette Brown and Jimmy Clausen (whom Hurney tried to trade up for).

I don't think Otah is one you can really count against him. Otah was a fuging beast before the injuries and then he just decided he didn't want to play anymore after rehabbing for a few years. That's not something that could have been foreseen. We haven't had a RT anywhere close to as talented since.

I hear you, but it was also a top 20 pick, that only played in 29 games.

He was saying that Hurney never missed, but I would call a player that was drafted 19 overall, that we gave up a 1, 2, and 4th round pick for, that only played 29 games a pretty big swing and miss.

I can blame Hurney for giving up multiple picks for a guy that many had already identified as a player that didn't play through pain.  He was a 1st round pick, that we gave up a 1st, 2nd, and 4th rounder to select....only to play 29 games.

Brown was selected in the 2nd, but cost us a 1st.  You can't dismiss that.

Just like Armanti Edwards cost us the top pick in Round Two.
