Gettlemen offered Norman just above 10 mill per season

Dwill was not even a starter and didn't even play every game... Smiths production also dropped at the end of the because of his age.  He now is coming off of a serious injury. Money well spent but let's just over look the facts.

???? Smith production increased in 2015, I think his age had little to do with his drop off, plus he had a good 2014 postseason.

now with the Achilles injury I do think we see some sort of drop off

Teams can value players differently depending on how they fit their system.

We could have a Grade-A quality second string TE and we wouldn't be opening the pocket book to pay them, whereas some other team might.

Gett just isn't paying 15 mil for a CB.  Doesn't matter if it is JNo, Revis, or Deion Sanders in his prime with a time machine that fast forwards to today.

I think the fact he hadn't signed the tender was an indication to DG that Norman wasn't all-in for the team which was enough for him to cut ties. I can see an argument for both sides. But I'm a panthers fan before any single player and this is another long term move.

No one in that situation would sign the tender when your trying to get a long term deal done. Norman wanted too much money and DG was like screw this I think I rather have the 14mil to resign KK and Star and maybe get a 3rd rd pick for next yr. Basically think of it like this would I rather have Norman for 1 year or would I have have KK + Star for a long term deal.

Norman is short term

KK and Star are long term

DG went for the long term play to have consistency every year. Alot of teams would have gone for the short term and the NOW results and kept Norman but you don't see the consequence of that decision until 3 years later when another star player leaves.

So 670 yards is a increase of 1000 yards?  That's odd math.

Go by ypg snake you know he missed most of the season with the Achilles (devils advocate)

That was my point. Old people get injured and really no one Dave has cut really did better than they did here. Well maybe Lafell and it took deflated balls.

After thinking about it, I just don't understand the Panthers' thought process here.

They lose NOTHING by keeping the tag.
- The extra cap space is meaningless this late into the offseason with all of the major FA's scooped up (and we for damn sure could've used some OL/WR/DB depth).
- If Norman holds out then we don't have to pay him
- He isn't going to purposely play poorly because he would've missed out on his payday next year

I completely understand not giving him a big contract. He isn't a proven commodity (yet) and plays arguably the most volatile position in football where stars fade in & out on a yearly basis. Not many corners out there that you can realistically expect to produce at a high level every year.

But ****in' a. Just keep him for one season and let him walk. Gman ust let an all-pro at a premium position walk to prove a point.

This is about as false a statement there can be, this is smith first major injury since breaking his arm. And d will, munnerlyn, and even Hardy had a decent years once they left here.

It's called eliminating distractions. Josh wasn't playing without a long term deal, and a long term deal wasn't getting done. No reason to let this drag out for months.
