Wow, no wonder he left.  That's pretty lowball honestly, going by market rates.

Not really, he had one year of good play and cost the team with his personality. Remember when people said Hardy was going to be great in Dallas?  Yup that didn't happen and Carolina will keep making players look all pro.  Hell we don't even know if josh can play the slot.

I'd choose 10M per and a shot a multiple rings, vs 15M and a shot at 6 wins.

see Michael Jordan. he was paid extremely team friendly salaries until the end of his career, because he wanted rings.

First. You would take 44mil, and a shot, but never knowing if you'd win? Over 75mil, and knowing you'd never win? This tickles me. I'd bet 99% of people would never leave 31mil on the table. Especially when you consider that the vast majority of NFL players never win a ring.

Only on the interwebz would people say they would leave 31mil on the table. I would not want you to be the bread winner of my family if you would leave that much money on the table. Every person in your family would call you out for doing something so ridiculous. But hey, at least you'd have your principles. Right?

Second. Jordan was the best player in the league, and was making 40mil a year in endorsements alone. That my friend is a wacky comparison.

I'm not leaving 31M on the table, I'm making 45M. I'm very happy to make 45M and have a shot to win championships. Glass half full.

1 year of elite play, Josh getting up in age. Now if Josh played at the same level on the franchise tag, then he would have 2 years elite play. Im sure Gman wouldnt of lowballed him then, Josh was just greedy and punched his ticket out of town.

Your wrong about that. It would have been about the same. You don't understand how Gettleman thinks. You have 155 chips to play with. You don't want to allocate 15 chips to a corner. Put those chips in the QB and hogmollies.

In 2 years when Josh is 31 and everyone is complaining about how slow he is you'll be thankful he's not counting 15 million against the cap.

Rivera has had great defenses everywhere he's ever coaches. Shutdown corner or not...it doesn't matter. His defenses dominate. We still have the best front 7 in the game and it's probably only getting better in the offseason. Was Josh a great player? Yeah. But that particular skillet isn't absolutely necessary for Panthers success. I have full confidence RR, Wilkes and the rest will develop another corner just like they did with Norman.

I don't think for a second that 11 mil was as high as G-Man was WILLING to go. The problem is that these were negotiations and Josh's  agent wasn't willing to negotiate. You come with reasonable offers and make concessions and both teams slowly work towards the middle. Josh could have easily ended up in the 12.5-13 million a year range.  2-3 mil a year less is a HELL of a lot less than the 31 million figure thats being thrown around based off of our initial offer. Factor in chances to win and what I believe would have been far better endorsements for the hometown boy/fan favorite and you make up a chunk of the difference. So yes, I'd be willing to leave THAT extra money on the table in order to establish a legacy and a fanbase along with having the best of all worlds.

That's all before you even consider bringing up extra playoff money and the idea that you could have made his contract an incentive laden contract to keep him honest and get him closer to a number he liked assuming his production stayed at a high level (and protected our cap if he had a serious drop off or couldn't live up to the hype).  But we never got to those stages because his agent was a moron that tried to hold G-Man, OF ALL PEOPLE, hostage.

Don't really know.  Josh's camp may or may not have been unreasonable.  But Norman's camp appears to be right about what the market was for him.

Maybe Dave was the one unwilling to negotiate.  Maybe the only deal he would offer was well below Norman's market rate and refused to discuss much else....

I still think people are head over heels and in the honeymoon phase with Dave.  There was a time when Marty Hurney was a rockstar too
