Hmm...why isn't a single Panther, not even in the secondary, mad at Josh?

Whenever a significant player leaves the Panthers through FA or being cut, it sure brings out the worst of this place.  Gameday threads excluded of course.

people forget that acting like a reactionary lunatic serial killer over a player they like leaving (or, in the case of some morons, literally any draft pick or roster move made by dave gettledouche aka matt millen) puts them on the exact same footing as the "gettleman ball lickers" they so despise.

They're universally supporting him on social media and congratulating him on getting paid. But Huddlers have been telling me that Josh betrayed them by wanting money instead of a chance at a ring. Surely you people aren't wrong right? If Josh was really betraying the team by wanting to get paid, they would be mad or at least wouldn't be publicly backing him on social media like Tre Boston and Charles Tillman and Bene Benwikere and Mike Tolbert and Ryan Kalil and Kawann Short (that I know of so far) have done in the past hour.

So all the Huddlers saying Josh put money and greed ahead of the team...I haven't heard one person that actually plays on that team echo that. Just the opposite. Interesting, what's up with that?

Hmm why did multiple panthers come out in support of Greg Hardy? Guess they must've made an awful decision.

I'm not happy. Are you happy that our stud franchise corner in his prime won't be here next year and we got nothing for him?

No matter what other fans have to do to convince themselves it will not be difficult to replace Norman and the defense will not miss a step, losing him was a huge set back for the defense. Josh Norman was as important to the defense as Luke Kuechly. Norman significantly reduced the opposing offenses options and made it considerably easier on the safeties and LBs in coverage.

There was a comment DG made about this.  Apparently trade possibilities were out there but no one wanted to bite instead of giving into a lowball draft pick.  Let him go, take the 3rd round compensatory pick we will receive for him.

3rd round compensatory is better than nothing.

You really think professional athletes are gonna blame another one because he leaves this team publicly? They won't say so even if Norman really "betrayed" this team. What I'm proud about our players is they are not P. Peterson who run his mouth on the twitter.

By the way, what does betray mean? Norman doesn't have to be a Panther. He has his right to make his own choice.

That said, I still feel bad for his leaving.

Business is business, and this was certainly business.

He gets his fat pay he deserves, and will more than likely produce less than his contracts number of years.

This, gentleman, is how to stay out of cap hell and not overpay aging players (he will be 32 at the end of his contract) with messy big binding contracts.

players of course are going to react differently because they have a limited amount of time to make as much money possible.  Fans have a different interest in the team.  Norman having his first breakout season at age 28 and also during a contract year with other key guys almost up for a new deal was the worst possible timing for the panthers.  No its not ideal to let a franchise player walk for no compensation but this was a perfect storm of bad factors for the franchise.

The $14M in cap space we gained will go a long long way towards keeping core young players who will be free agents soon.

All that sounds good till you realize those core players contracts don't come up till next year. So why not have Norman for 1 more year.

Norman was the only important/core player who's contract came up this year.

I've been thinking about this for a few days and I hear all the talk about "greed" and "take less money".  Josh Norman (or really any player who's not in the clear cut top 5-6 QBs) is worth what he's asking for. He has every right to ask for it. You can't get what you don't ask for. Josh just set his family up for generations. Was it the "right" decision? Who knows. Josh probably won't really know until it's over. There's no clear cut answer here because what's "right" for Josh and what he values (his family, his financial success, etc.) might be different than what we (fans) value (All-Pro players, Super Bowls, Meme's). Point is, the players are happy for other players getting paid because they know what it's like.  The team is probably happy that it worked out this way. The worst thing to have happened would be for Josh to sign in the division for 10-11M per. Josh got his money outside of the division, we get to keep 14M to use on depth and we accelerated a process (replacing Josh) by a year because we all know if he had the same year this year as he did last year, we'd be in the same position.

The sky is not falling. Good teams make tough decisions but they're able to make those decisions in times like these because they're thoughtful. They don't just do. They plan. There is a plan. We don't know what it is, but just enjoy the ride. We have the most dynamic player in football as our QB, arguably the best defensive player in the league, a 3rd year WR who is pissed off after having a 1000 yd season and then having to sit out in a SB run.  If we've learned anything about this team, it's that they're a team.
