Note to John Fox on the quarterback situation: there might be a way around Jake Delhomme. Just give the ball to your running backs. If you include the playoffs last season, the Panthers are 11-2 in games in which at least one of the running back duo of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart carries at least 15 times. The Panthers are 1-4 in which neither of them gets 15 carries.

Yeah, but we also run the ball when we're maintaining a lead.

If we're down by large deficits, as we were against Arizona and Philadelphia, we're passing to play catch up.

I am beginning to seriously wonder, however, if we would do better to run the ball nearly all the time. If we go three and out, so be it if we don't turn the ball over or let the other team score off of a fumble or interception. One of the backs will break a long one if we just keep feeding them.

The only reason we get into those damn deficits is because of turnovers, from a man who shall remain confidential.

If that's for just one season....that would be a record of 12-6.....

Where'd the extra game come from?

The thing is you could yell this in john fox's ear and he would just shrug and say "it is what it is" the dude just doesn't give a fug.

No poo, OP. Fox don't know what he got in DWill and JStew, or he at least don't show it. They're the toughest Rush Duo in NFL history. Ask any sports analyst with half a brain. Double Trouble is one of the five reasons the Panthers are so damn good.

1. DE Julius Peppers - He's a play-maker every single play he lines up for. Watch him tomorrow. You will see what I mean. Collapsing the pocket continually, making tackles, sacks, the occasional INT here and there. He can bull-rush. He can speed-rush. He can counter, duck, weave, and do just about anything else you could possibly ask from an End. He's worth every cent of that 16 Million. He is one of the two reasons the Defense is ever any good.

2. Double Trouble (DWill and JStew) - Without them, there would be NO offense. These boys keep drives alive, perform amazing Houdini acts on a regular basis, hold on to the ball, run like hell, make textbook stiffarms, etc etc etc. They are the reason the Panthers went to the playoffs last year.

3. WR Steve Smith - This man is the ONLY reason Jake Delhomme didn't look like poo the ENTIRE season (Rather than just part of it) last year. He sees Jake looking for him. Jake overthrows the ball (INTO DOUBLE COVERAGE ALMOST EVERY TIME), so Smitty jumps up, catches the ball, makes some kind of crazy Houdini act, gets low and runs at a million miles per hour, and gets into the inzone. He fights for the points. He deals out textbook stiffarms all the time, can block like a motherf**ker, and just keeps the team from falling apart (The mic'd up vid proves it). This man deserves every single award, Pro Bowl appearance, and the spot in the Hall of Fame that he will eventually occupy. The man is an all around beast.

4. MLB Jon Beason - Do I even have to explain this one? This man is the life of the Defense. Pep collapses the pocket, forces the Quarterback to throw, and Beason intercepts it. The man can block rushing attacks, pick a ball out of the air, run with an intercepted ball, jump through the line and sack the Quarterback from time to time, and is the other reason the Defense is ever any good.

5. K John Kasay - C'mon. Any Panthers fan will tell you that without one of the most accurate Kickers in the league, this team would have lost quite a few nailbiters. He kicks the ball far and accurate. Every time he kicks it, I can almost call it before he hits the ball. He puts it in between the posts continually almost every time. He is the life of the Special Teams.

Run it all the time??????

Sorry, but when you have one of the most explosive receivers in the game, a second receiver like Moose as well as a quick tight end with good hands in Barnidge and Rosario, not to mention Goodson (when he can keep from fumbling) you find a way to get them involved in the offense. With a good gameplan Jake should be fine. Lets be honest, he can be very effective if you help him manage the game and have a chance to get hot at the end of the game if needed.

Sure we need to run, but in order to make the run work, we need to be able to throw when needed. And we need to be able to throw when they expect us to run. Then we run when we want to run and pick up enough yards to end up in third and short instead of third and long.

I think the guy below Double Trouble on your list might take issue with that statement. You know, since he's been our biggest offensive threat since 2003 and all.
Here's the thing. You saw last week what happens when we rely on Smitty TOO MUCH. If our Rush game sucked, Delhomme would throw to Smitty every single play. We saw what happens when he does that in the last two meaningful games. So you are right in that Smitty is a major component in the offense, but, to set the record straight:

"Y'all are better than me. But I'll always be on your coattail." - Spoken by Steve Smith to DeAngelo Williams

There is no one reason -- or two, if you're counting Williams and Stewart -- that our offense is successful.

Your argument could just as easily be flipped on its head. Without Smith, other teams could bring nine in the box about every down, which would for the most part shut down our running game. We run to pass, and we pass to run.

I love our running backs and agree that they and the line they run behind are perhaps most critical to our style of offense. But without them, we would definitely still have an offensive threat. We've had it in years in Steve Smith.

Now you're taking a statement of humility as fact.

I know. That's why I included both our pass game and the rush game in my 5 reasons. They work together to make our offense great. Without one, the other wouldn't function properly. I think you misinterpreted what I meant.

Now you're taking a statement of humility as fact.
It's straight form the horse's mouth. I am simply using this quote to solidify my point that out rush attack is the most powerful (And should be the most used) part of our offense.

Don't get me wrong. I have a Smitty Jersey. No other. He is my favorite player, and is a hero to me. I am simply admitting that without the rush game, the pass game wouldn't function properly.

However, you are right in that it goes the other way as well.
