Not sure Skins fans should be happy about this, the team finally stopped signing expensive FA's and building through the draft. Paying a 29 year old CB who has had 1.5 seasons of success 15 mil for 5 years would be a major departure from the way they've been building this team for the last few years under the current GM - so it would have Snyder written all over it.

That's him and his whole family, flown up from SC on the teams private jet. Washington acting like it's old self and pulling out all its old 2 early 2000's moves.

Just because he's visiting the Redskins or any other team doesn't mean he will sign. When we cut CJ he visited the Giants and got an offer that was twice as much as what he eventually came back to us for. Josh will take visits simply to see what else everyone is offering and weigh that against the numbers we floated. I take the fact that he hired a new agent the day after we rescinded the tag as a good sign that he realizes his former representation was part of how he ended up in this (bad) situation and there was no way to move forward with us without a new agent.

It's particularly worth noting that Gettleman was pro personnel director in the Giants org when Accorsi (GM) did this same thing with Plexico Burress, and after a few visits Burress came back, so Gettleman might be taking a page right out of Accorsi's playbook on this. Rescind the tag late in FA when most of the money has already been spent and the player will realize his best option is to stay put.

I also distinctly remember Polian saying he refused to officially enter negotiations with a player until the tag was signed because he wasn't going to play his hand until he had fully secured exclusive rights to the player. Gettleman said he had conversations with Norman's agent and Norman where they probably threw some numbers around, but I'd imagine Gettleman told them he wouldn't talk real numbers until the tender was signed and Norman's agent told Gettleman they wouldn't sign the tag and report until they had agreed in principle on an acceptable long term deal. So, Gettleman got tired of dealing with the agents refusal to operate in good faith by having his client sign the tag and took the next step.

I strongly suspect Norman will be back here... Gettleman say we've "moved on" to demonstrate our resolve but this is all a game of chicken.

Redskins playing dirty now

Well, if those idiots are offering nearly $80 million, I can't say I really blame him for fleecing them.

At the same time, Washington has been a hot mess for years, hope it ends up being worth it for him. Best of luck.

If he signs with the Skins they probably deserve each other.

Yea, first offer was over 13m per the day he was released/tag rescinded. Now I'm seeing over 15m per for 5 years in an attempt to keep in from ever leaving Redskins facilities.

BTW, to Zod's point about San Francisco the cost of living is SIGNIFICANTLY higher in the DC area (take my word for it) so I hope he factors that in to whatever the Skins offer him vs. what he was offered here (forgetting about the 14 mil guaranteed that he wouldn't sign off on).

Is it that bad all the way out in Ashburn where the Redskins facility is? I don't think any of the players live in or very close to DC proper.

yeah, if Carolina offers you 12 mill....you going to need to make about 15 mill in SF to make it worth it.  You could buy a 2 mill house in Charlotte and that same caliber home likely goes for twice as much in SF or more.

Voth is on WFNZ right now talking about potential off field issue that lead to this. He wants to spill the beans but isn't.  Could be self promotion but could be interesting.

Voth has been out of the loop all off season.  Would be interesting to see it anything comes of that.
