I still know a couple people...what happened with josh

The main thing to keep in mind is josh didn't want to play anywhere but Carolina. However, he also wanted to be paid.

His agent preached hardball, telling him "this is how the game is played." He was presented tons of similar instances (drew brees being the prime example) of how these holdouts always end well for the player.

At no point was josh trying to get out of Carolina. Gettleman just wasn't interested in play Josh's agent's game.

Additionally the panthers do not think as highly of josh as josh thinks of himself, and that because of the schedule they don't really feel he's integral, which I don't understand.

At this point, josh would have to take even less than he was offered originally to come to Carolina, or a short two year deal.

Josh is now torn between his last paycheck or staying at a place that has basically treated him like a son since he was drafted.

thomas Davis, Charles Johnson and Roman Harper (wtf) are telling him to take less money on a one year deal to take another run at the super bowl.

gettleman basically just sent a message to every single agent and player in the league, and every employee is updating their resume lol

holy crap man

well I think Dave did send a message to guys employed in Carolina.

as far as the rest of the league?  Nah, tons GMs are going to put with Josh, his agent and whatever else to get what Norman brought.  Big picture Josh doesn't actually have issues....he just has an annoying style of play and likes the media.  He isn't the type guy coaches/teams actually seem to worry about.

Remember all those stories last year about Thomas Davis et al "taking care" of problems?

they were all josh.

I figured this based on TD usually being the first one in Norman's ear on the sideline when he was being dumb

If Norman truly wanted to be here and listened to bad advice from an inexperienced agent looking to make a name for himself with this deal, then I feel bad for him.  Based on his reaction yesterday, it seems believable.  You'd think a guy wanting maximum value would welcome hitting the open market.  Even though it's bad timing, there are still some CB needy teams out there with the cap room to give him a mega deal, but Josh seemed really bummed, not excited.  Seems like he wanted to be here and realized he and his agent overplayed their hand and fuged it up.

What message do you think he sent?

that for the time being, he basically wants to implement a Patriots style build to the team.  Message that his machine (system) functioning is more important than who actually makes up the machine.

I have been all over Norman and was bashed as a hater....I was one that constantly pointed out the babysitting TD was doing.

and yet, I still think for a one year run...Norman is worth the nonsense now.

Guys, I'm telling you, there was no overall message sent with this other than Dave isn't going to spend huge money for DBs.  If this was Cam or an elite pass rusher, this would've been handled differently.  We have some hogmollies coming up for new deals and once Dave saw how far apart the two sides were he decided to use that $14M to lock up guys at positions he values more highly rather than keep that money tied up in a one year rental on a guy who plays a position he doesn't value as highly.  It's pretty much that simple.

That's the impression I got.

People if you ever find your self in a situation in a bargaining situation please put the BEST handlers around you..someone that isn't afraid to tell you no or to think of the bigger picture..

It just sound like Josh had that..only yes people..

Not yes people, even worse.  A no name agent attempting to use this situation to make a name for himself.  He made a name for himself alright, but not in the way he intended.

I agree with you, except that I also think it sends the message to know your value to the team.  Dave will set the ceiling of what he thinks your worth, and will not budge.
