Josh Norman hiring new agent to be lead on his new deal

Word is he wanted his agent to get the best possible deal from carolina and he fumbled it big time. Don't know how true it is but if it was completely about money he would be preparing to ink a deal with another team right now. Not getting my hopes up, just gonna see what happens.

I wonder if this constitutes a true agent change because according to the rules, Josh would need to wait 5 business days for the agent change to formalize and be able to negotiate a deal with teams. However, 5 business days ends up going to the day of the draft...not ideal.

Might be why his current agent is staying on as a co-rep as that may circumvent the 5-day waiting period?

I think you answered your own question

That could certainly be possible, but what the agent and Josh did is fairly standard practice for franchise tagged players. Wait until the deadline then sign the best deal available or sign the tag and play out the year if the deal isn't to their liking. Like 3 deals were signed on 7/15 last year which is the deadline to get a long term deal done. Without knowing the specifics of the negotiations it's hard to say that the agent really did anything wrong. Perhaps he overplayed the bluff that Josh wouldn't sign long term for anything close to what we were offering. Perhaps Gettleman was looking at cap space and decided that taking Josh's $14M and rolling it over into next year to help facilitate signing our other upcoming free agents was much more important and without warning or even negotiations between the parties just rescinded the tag. What Gettleman did is highly unusual. There's no debating that Gettleman does not fit the typical mold of an NFL GM or that he cares to operate within the accepted norm of the profession. I doubt the agent and Josh ever thought this was even a remote possibility.

There's also the possibility Josh was popping champagne last night because he is about to be set for life.

He is coming back! The professional is in the building now! He would have already signed with another team if it was about the money!

He has had literally less than a day to have negotiations with another team.  How in the world would he have signed a deal by now?  This addition to his team really doesn't mean anything except he wants a better negotiator.

Well, Josh is one of my favorite players and I genuinely hope everything works out in a manner that makes him happy.  It's clear the agent really didn't really handle things as well as expected so I'm glad Josh is able to improve that situation, whether he ends up back here or not I wish him the best and will always root for him.

Charles Johnson came back so you never know. I like JNo but DG is being smart and showing these agents that if you want to play in Carolina they will give fair market value and not overpay. Leave your BS agent games at the door when time to negotiate. Steelers and Patriots are same way which helps them be competitive every year.

10.5 million. no more. no less

I wanted to give him 11 per the first time. I say, we'll honor our 17mil franchise tag and even the rest out to an average of 11 / year. Maybe a 4 year note with 20 or so immediately guaranteed?

You're telling me some other team can matcthat AND be a contender?
